principalagent
Plumage also makes visual individual errors really obvious from up top. Not using them might be good for a specific show design, but are also potentially a good way to hide errors. natertater21000
Popular Post ioncewaslost
I've noticed some bands, ie;...Vista Ridge and Timber Creek.....perform their shows without headgear. Is that a new trend? Just curious. The main reason we (VR) do not have headgear this year is because we unexpectedly had 80(!) freshmen join band this year. Amazing to be growing larger after just 2 years in 6A. Thank you to everyone for all your support. It's been an emotional journey as each of us can relate to being lost, and hopefully, found. LostChoirGuy
She never said anything about it being a fluke. All of the scores in area H were very close, especially between Leander and Westlake, so it is reasonable to think that under different judges the result could have been different. Hard Core Band Fan
It's a shame that when something doesn't go a school's way, we have parents on here blaming judges and discrediting kids. Westlake probably worked very hard to get to the point that they are at now so it is quite inconsiderate to consistently say it was a fluke 2 performances and the judges messed up. Show some class I'm sorry, I missed the part where she said that Westlake didn't deserve to go. She made a joke. You know what a joke is, right? Lighten up! LeanderMomma
It’s all good. Folks are crazy sensitive right now and that’s to be expected. I apologize if I offended any Westlake band kids here in this forum. They absolutely work as hard as anyone and they deserved to place in the upper tier on Saturday night in Area H. I’m grateful for the rule that allows a fourth band to go if they were given 3s by at least 3 of the judges. It worked out well for both bands. txbandman987

LeanderMomma
Oh sure, backtrack now! :P Nahhh, I just don’t see the point in a useless argument. I was teasing in my original comment but I can see how it might have looked bitter to someone who doesn’t know me.
GreedyGreen
I attached a picture of my predictions for finals. I find it funny because I’m pretty sure 1-14 could change at any given time. This is just based on what I’ve seen and the buzz I’m hearing. Yes, they don't announce which judges make up which panel in advance, but it's pretty easy to tell who is on the field judging, and I can usually scope out who is in the box with a zoom lens. We'll post the panels here once we decipher. LeanderMomma

You WILL incur the wrath of this forum! She is our honorary band mom, even if she might just be the same age or younger than some of us! Seriously...nobody is more gracious and supportive here. There's no shade thrown, just love and support for all of these kids killing it and working their d***dest. Let's lighten up. This is a remarkable time for marching band in Texas. More people than ever are engaged and interested, and the programs across the board seem to be getting stronger and more competitive. Let the football teams hate. Let's continue to support the arts and the tremendous acts these kids are putting on the field. AvonDad, Mash and 5 te 6

I do feel sad if I offended the Westlake band kids tho, so let me again be clear that I am not discrediting their (or anyone’s) hard work. Sometimes I joke around too much and feelings get hurt. You are right about how it’s truly about everyone supporting the arts. How can one NOT appreciate what these kids put out year after year? It’s mind boggling at times. I am awed at the level of musical ability these kids have nowadays. If you had given me some of the music back when I was in band that these kids play today, I would have said, “that is impossible for me to learn.” And that most likely was true! But it’s no longer impossible for today’s band students. The bar has been set extremely high, and these kids are KILLING IT! And then you add in all of these hugely demanding marching shows, and it blows my mind. I’m ready to have my mind blown again this weekend. Is it Friday yet?! b_radon_inSA, LHSbandDad and brassdad

LHSbandDad
I’m ready to have my mind blown again this weekend. Is it Friday yet?! This is my 11th year as a Leander Band Dad and attending this SA Super Regional. I have always loved the spirit of teamwork and genuine desire from all to see all programs do well. Even though our youngest has experienced more success lately with the program than his older siblings, I remember all too well how it felt when we never knew if we were going to make finals. Being part a "bubble band" for several years has helped me appreciate what a privilege it is to make finals regularly. In addition, it allows me to appreciate what all the band parents are feeling this weekend. I hope everyone does well and has a great experience with their kiddos. I love being a "Band Dad" and enjoy the community that we are all part of. LeanderMomma

Neither of my older girls was in band so I had no idea what I was missing. We were fortunate to enter the program at a time of super growth for the LHS band. My baby girl's freshman year was 2013, and they didn't even make finals at San Antonio (tho they were only one spot out which is nothing to be ashamed of). Then we had our breakout year in 2014 which was such an amazing thing to experience. Her Senior year was the band's first trip to Grand Nats in nearly 20 years, so that was an incredible way to cap off our brief experience as an active band family. Now I'm a forever fan!!!
