The city of Cedar Park would keep its current monopoly on SMBC titles.  

Aside - with Leander dropping back to 5A, I thought it might finally be their year.  I thought Rouse was underrated back in 2019, though I am pretty far from an expert.

Cedar Park at 7 for Visual Ensemble in finals is a surprise, for sure. Love being able to see how percussion stacks up against eachother in the state!

Would you happen to have access to the detailed recaps?

I know the judges scored in both content and achievement and both those scores were added for overall so I was wondering if those were public.

Random things of note from the recaps:

•  Colleyville Heritage & Forney greatly benefited from their ranks in Content & Design, with Forney actually placing #1 in the caption in prelims while placing 8th overall. 
• Only two judges had Cedar Park lower than top 2 and each of those judges had them lower than 5th, both in completely different captions.
• Leander's 13th in content & design could have very well cost them a 2nd place finish in prelims, if the C&D judge had them in 3rd which was the average of all of Leander's captions then they would have been 2nd.
• While CH & Forney benefited from the C&D caption it seems Wakeland & Leander were most hurt by it, their C&D scores having the greatest difference from their overall scores in other captions.

Leander has historically always been hurt by GE type captions, at least MGE. This is a really confusing trend. They don't really deserve these low MGE scores but it's consistent enough to be a pattern in almost every single one of their seasons.

Dang Roma comes out in 13th overall, just barely missing finals. They also got 13th at BOA Waco, just missing finals. I'm sure they gave it their all this season after receiving a Division II in 2019 due to a penalty for exceeding the eight minute allotted performance time, thus unable to participate in the Area/State contest for the 10th consecutive year. In 2017 they got 11th, just barely missing finals.

 

But on a more positive note! Congrats to every single band! This 5A contest was truly amazing. So many great programs!

Exactly what I was gonna say. All of these kids put in so much work and all of these shows were super high tier imo.

So my biggest confusion is Henny. I definitely thought they would place higher and don’t understand their placement. But again it’s personal opinion but everyone wass amazing today!

Seriously?! Your brother laid his head down tonight with either one or two gold medals he’s earned. And that’s because CP and those kids are just about technically perfect musically and visually. There was no criticism of the kids out there.
IMO that show wasn’t designed for people outside of the CP bubble, other than being extremely difficult and demanding. It just didn’t connect with me. That obviously doesn’t matter to anyone else, especially the judges lol. Congrats on their win!

In addition to waking up with HP's Sugar Rush music in my head (b/c that was my kid's show, so it's been in my head since August), I also have Rouse's music in my head. 🙂 Again, every performance was truly outstanding yesterday, but Rouse's show was especially lovely IMO...really loved that music book! 

Congratulations to all the finalists and to the medalists! It was such a wonderful experience seeing all of those shows in one sitting, and seeing the full band retreat at the end. I can't wait to follow along for 6A...

I think I like the Leander ISD shows a little more than you do but I get with where you are coming from.  The same thing happens in DCI with the Blue Devils.  Out of the last 8 world championships the Blue Devils have one, there's only one or two of them where I actually prefer the Blue Devils over whatever corp finished 2nd.

And I'm not a BD hater, I love the Blue Devils from the 80's and 90's during my formative years of watching marching band/DCI.  But the reason the Blue Devils have 13 year streak of top 2 finishes is that they consistently execute technically at an amazing level.  But unfortunately amazing execution at a technical level doesn't always translate into exciting shows.
