  1. Nope. Different day, different performance, and different judging panel plus a week and a half to clean and refine. Burleson Centennial finished in 3rd behind Aledo and Richland in Area F and were top 6 in state prelims.
  2. Congrats to all the finalists today! So happy for Burleson Centennial and couldn't be more proud with the way you've represented B-town! Wow, Rouse and Cedar Park were amazing. It's the first time I've ever really enjoyed and not just admired a CP show. Great job!
  3. This seems really tough. I think about 5-7 locks and then about 15 groups competing for those last 5-7 spots. And it's UIL so you definitely never know.
  4. Surprised Murphy allows so many videos to be posted. Seems like he always yanked down Burleson Centennial ones. Can't even find any of the 2019 videos from the state finals year.
  5. I think the biggest factor would be making sure the band is prepared for a prelims run that gets them to state instead of to finals. I know you always want each time to be the best but human nature can kick in when you know you're good enough for a mediocre performance to get you into finals comfortably. Might not have that luxury this time. It's also probably more nerve-wracking with an early time hoping you stick in the judges' minds. Rain can certainly alter performance, usage of electronics, and props.
  6. I agree it's probably not ideal just because of the early wakeup time. But on the other hand it gives staff and students plenty of time to review the prelims run and rehearse to clean and make any adjustments before finals. Also with plenty of time to rest. I remember in 2019 BC did just that and went from 6th in prelims to 1st in finals by making some key adjustments before the night run.
  7. This makes zero sense to me. Why would you not want to measure yourself against the competition in your area at every opportunity? If my kid was still there, I’d be ticked. I don’t think they’re scared of anything, it just seems kinda disrespectful to the whole process.
  8. Seriously?! Your brother laid his head down tonight with either one or two gold medals he’s earned. And that’s because CP and those kids are just about technically perfect musically and visually. There was no criticism of the kids out there. IMO that show wasn’t designed for people outside of the CP bubble, other than being extremely difficult and demanding. It just didn’t connect with me. That obviously doesn’t matter to anyone else, especially the judges lol. Congrats on their win!
  9. Wow….Leander! I just wish some of these shows that are actually fun to watch would win sometime.
  10. All this size talk is really funny and strange. I don’t know where you all get your numbers but I’d be willing to bet that Centennial marched the fewest winds out of anyone in finals tonight. This area was super tough and every group brought it. I saw every finalist perform in prelims and finals and the ones who advanced tonight either matched a really good performance from prelims or definitely improved. Most of the ones who didn’t advance did not have as good a run tonight as they did earlier in the day (Midlo is the biggest exception). That’s just the way the contest goes. Congrats to all the bands today and I’m extremely proud of these kids at Centennial!
  11. Just to clarify, I'm a Centennial dad so I've seen the show plenty of times. Was just curious if there is actual video out there as I haven't seen any. We did take a hit due to Covid. It unfortunately took a lot of the momentum we had gained after the success in 2019 and we're marching about 20 fewer from an already pretty small group. Also, our head director bailed before this school year. But these kids work extremely hard and get better every time. Thankfully the award doesn't go to biggest band.
  12. I totally agree. That is such a reach. While I don't really like the song "Walk Like an Egyptian", just because of personal preference, that sax solo really saves it.
  13. Just curious....is there video of Burleson Centennial out there?
  14. Centennial’s show is entitled Hood. The run was better tonight than in prelims, but I feel like they’re holding back a little. I’m not sure of the strategy. I agree with a lot of your commentary. There was some interesting judging and a scoring system that I’m not sure will translate well to UIL. I do think Azle was solid, but I’m not sure about that placement. I think Aledo is stronger overall, but I also think their run in prelims was better. I don’t know if this contest did anything other than make next Saturday even more of a tossup in Area F.
  15. Sorry, that's Coppell Non-Varsity. I don't think they will be a factor.
  16. Appears that this is the only game in town this weekend. This should be a fun one, especially with 11 5A Area F bands that will be back at this venue a week later. 17. Right now....yeah I'd think so. BOA DFW is a bloodbath and they made Finals. And believe me, being a Centennial dad, I don't like admitting it.
  18. BOA DFW was 4 days ago. Aledo was definitely cleaner and had a better run than Centennial on Saturday. It reminds of 2 years ago when Aledo was much cleaner early in the season than Centennial and placed higher at BOA DFW and BOA Waco. Colleyville Heritage was also finishing ahead. Centennial is really good at making adjustments during the season and incorporating suggested changes from judges. Now that's not to say it's going to happen the same way again this year. Aledo is really good and is the favorite, in my mind, for Area. Then we add the curveball of Richland and Summit back in 5A. Outside of Aledo being the favorite, I think it's nuts to predict the other 3 state qualifiers yet. There are too many variables and so much work being done every day with these programs. Also, I'm pretty sure no one has seen all the contenders in this group and are just going off what they've read in other comments. They've been in different contests with different levels of competition and judging variables and not all have videos that are findable. I think we can make some educated guesses on the finalists, but Finals is going to be a dogfight. Lastly....where we can submit a petition to the UIL to ban band directors from choosing "Pure Imagination" in their shows? ?
  19. Looks like we have 15 bands qualified for 5A Area F so far. Just looking at the Region 5 roster, it looks like a tall order to get the other 10 needed to get that 5th state qualifier. ?
  20. Burleson Centennial does not have BOA Austin on our calendar.
  21. Burleson Centennial has Mansfield POC on 9/25 and the Birdville contest on 10/16 on our calendar.
