Origin Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 Hebron, Keller, and Pearland stayed in the same placements, but everyone else shifted around. Leander and Vista Ridge had the biggest movements from prelims to finals. That 1st place ensemble visual for Cedar Ridge may have put them in the top half over Vista Ridge. It’s also interesting that a majority of the judges had Keller in the top half in prelims. If they had a more effective visual program they would be such a threat! Franus and slowbrass 2 Quote
Nny14 Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 Musically Round Rock is a finalist caliber band. Those visual scores are just brutal though. Can't say I disagree with them either. I hope they get that sorted out in the future soon, these kids can freaking play. InIt4Fun and BandmomCrew 2 Quote

Just not the same quality of sound of the other top groups. Odd score. To have them higher in Ensemble Music and close in Ind. Music to Hebron? Not even close. Quote

Band2021 Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 Totally agree!!! Round Rocks music has always made them shine! My one critique is the visual and concept of their show. They lack the effect of the other finalists. Quote
BandFan59 Posted November 7, 2021 Posted November 7, 2021 Reagan’s strength is in their visual program so those music results definitely have me scratching my head. They had a much better run than prelims to be fair. Quote

That doesn't suprise me. I'm sure they'll march a lot better at Nationals than they did yesterday, I'm just not sure what they can do now to make it more effective. Quote

Popular Post Origin Posted November 7, 2021 Popular Post Posted November 7, 2021 My biggest surprise of the whole competition was Johnson! The visual design stands out against the other top Texas groups in such a good way. If they continue their trajectory I don’t see why they can’t make finals here within a few years (or maybe next year 👀). My other big surprise was honestly Leander. That finals performance was one of the most impactful performances I’ve seen, ever. They maxed out at the perfect time. Since seeing Westlake at Austin, I had this feeling all season that they would make finals here. How unfortunate is it that they had that big electronics delay and fell .1 short of finals. Also props to the Area B bands for giving the Austin LISD bands a run for their money to finish in the top ten! There was a lot of hype (which was deserved) for Cedar Park, Vista Ridge, and Rouse to the point I was convinced they were locks for top 10 or even top half. DFW is still holding things down even without Flo Mo. peshbandkid, Vidal28, Marchingbandperson and 1 other 4 Quote

Popular Post CTJBandPops Posted November 7, 2021 Popular Post Posted November 7, 2021 WOW – what an amazing couple of days at the dome. Congrats to Hebron on their sweep of captions and first place finish. Their show was amazing and it was well deserved. I do not envy the task of the judging panels for this event and I know that it is said every year, but this year was by far the most talented pool of programs I have ever seen in one place. – I only wish that Flower Mound was there as well. Loved seeing our CTJ program back in the medals in San Antonio. It would appear that the Texas programs are back stronger than ever, and has put Covid behind them (can we bring back the full retreats now?) It is still a bit of a strange year with UIL State for all classes, but even that shows the strength of the Texas program to overcome and surge back. Now we turn our focus to UIL state particularly for 6A. It will be interesting to see how placements play out on Tuesday and if there big the variation from the BOA placings. Of the top 5 in the dome, we will lose TWHS this week, but will gain Flower Mound. We won’t have to wait long to find out. As for Grand Nats – I think that our #teamtexas participants will again have a strong presence at Lucas Oil Stadium. In 2019 we sent 3 bands from the top 5 and a total of 6 from the top 12 in San Antonio to Indy. This year we will again send 3 from the top 5 and 5 from the top 12 (would have been 6 if Flower Mound was in San Antonio. I think that we have an amazing team of 6A programs heading to Indy this next week and I wish them all luck. Parkwoodmom, SavageBevo, AlphaOmega and 1 other 4 Quote

Because they're doing State and Grand Nats they probably don't have much rehearsal time left, but I've seen schools get a lot done during those Nats ICC rehearsals. You're right, though. Those kids really can play! BandmomCrew 1 Quote
