  1. I guess I read that post slightly differently. I see a comment regarding a grand piano (or synthesizer), not someone bashing other kids in particular. I also see it as someone wanting to see their kid having a reasonable chance at success (on the scorecard anyway). Having said that, I don't think changing/limiting other schools is the way to achieve that. If someone has the will and drive to have grand pianos and elaborate productions, by all means go for it. It just hopefully raises the bar and provides motivation for others. Sadly, I could see how a kid could be a bit discouraged after seeing that and lose interest in band altogether, and I've heard that from students sitting in the stands at a competition this year. Also, as one of the many "newcomers" here, I've so far only posted a schedule and asked a silly question about scoring (I'm new to all of this). Try not to look down at us "newcomers" too much. In my experience as a new band parent, parents from our school and other schools have been welcoming and nothing but polite, and I've tried to do the same.
  2. Before I say anything and get called out on here, congratulations to McCallum, Hendrickson and Dripping Springs. Best of luck at state. All 7 finalists put on great shows, and it was a pleasure to watch - I truly mean that. Band students have to be some of the hardest workers out there. This is my first year as a band parent, and I've learned that Bandtober is a real thing. I'm no expert and certainly don't know what details to look for to grade performances. I happened to be going through the score sheet looking at the results - I'm assuming the numbers in the smaller boxes are raw scores from the judges? If so, then based on just the raw performance scores, I see that Johnson scored higher than Dripping Springs. But, since the raw scores by judges are translated to 1-7 rankings (7 bands), Dripping Springs came out ahead of Johnson. Is this correct? I'm not saying it's fair or not fair, and I'm sure there's a reason it's done this way (I guess to normalize the results), but I just want to make sure I'm reading this correctly. The top 3 schools are certainly deserving of a trip to the state competition. Again, congratulations to all of the bands. It was fun watching all of the performances.
  3. Here's the order of performances and times - I got this from a friend with a student at another school. 1. Johnson (11:00) 2. Weiss (11:15) 3. LASA (11:30) 4. Lockhart (11:45) 5. Hendrickson (12:00) 6. McCallum (12:15) 7. Pflugerville (12:30) <BREAK> 8. Anderson (1:30) 9. Floresville (1:45) 10. Georgetown (2:00) 11. Bastrop (2:15) 12. East View (2:30) 13. Seguin (2:45) <BREAK> 14. Lehman (3:15) 15. Elgin (3:30) 16. Canyon (NB) (3:45) 17. Cedar Creek (4:00) 18. Connally (4:15) 19. Dripping Springs (4:30) Finals start at 7pm, with 7 bands.
  4. I just saw a schedule for this area - 19 schools on the schedule.
