  1. There is a very strange choral piece that I think could make a really cool band arrangement (albeit difficult). It is called Cantate Domino by Tarik O'Regan. I have tried writing an arrangement, but I am just not talented at writing for instrumental groups, since I don't have experience with most of the instruments.
  2. NEVER count out Duncanville haha Edit: also Martin was awesome this year.
  3. Not much, but Summit is now 5A so that will make it a tiny bit easier.
  4. I have been super impressed with Bridgeland over the last two years. In my opinion they will be a GN semis lock and also will have a good showing at UIL this year (making state possibly? But definitely area finals).
  5. Interesting that Houston will now be on the same day as Midland instead of DFW.
  6. Sounds to me like UIL has been doing everything they can to keep Highland Park out of 6A, which seems like a bit of a conspiracy to me.
  7. Seeing how much Hendrickson fell in size makes me think it might have had some to do with their drop in performance this year. Not a significant amount, but it could still be noticeable.
  8. I think Grand Oaks and Shadow Creek are also moving to 6A from the Houston area. Seems there could be quite a bit of changes in the 5A alignment down there and I wouldnt be surprised at all to see them consolidate an area to make room for more in central or northern texas where there are so many 5A schools.
  9. Hendrickson will likely be in contention for a medal, too.
  10. Lots of changes in the DFW area. Looks like Boswell and Chisolm Trail are both now 6A along with Little Elm and Denton Braswell. Richland and Summit back to 5A. What is crazy to me is that Prosper only dropped 250 students from two years ago despite the new school submitting 1800. That means they grew over 1500 students in 2 years. I hope they have plans for a third school soon!
  11. In the DFW area, I am watching for Carroll, Wylie, James Martin, Burleson Centennial, Granbury, Wylie East and Lebanon Trail to continue to improve on successes this year.
  12. My sophomore year at Keller they opened up Timber Creek High School and it was the same thing, opening with only freshmen and sophomores. People who opted to transfer to the new school from my grade were in the first graduating class.
  13. As part of their deal with Flo in which Flo has the streaming rights, BOA (music for all) does not allow their contests to be videoed and posted. However, Flo only has the streaming rights and can't keep recordings with audio. I'm not sure how official school videographers fit into this, but my guess is that they have permission to record the performances for the use of the school specifically and are probably not supposed to post them on video sharing sites. That said, these don't seem to be taken down as frequently. However, videos of the performances do exist out there. They will be taken down from video sharing sites, but nothing reasonably can be done for privately distributing these recordings. If any of you have these recordings, a reasonable thing to do is to keep them in a private file and distribute them to people as they ask via file sharing or email. These copyright rules do not apply to non- BOA contests, so you can often find videos from other contests near the end of the season like UIL state or Duncanville, etc...
  14. I'm not familiar with Heights. Is that the same as Harker Heights?
  15. There are some groups I cant ever imagine choosing to go on a UIL year just because that seems to be their focus. I really want to see Coppell make their first Nats trip, but I think they fall in that category. Haltom seems to like doing their own thing. Maybe they will go?
  16. VANDY!!!! You did it! Kevin is coming back home to Texas!
  17. Thanks so much! This clears up a lot of confusion!
  18. Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't all state band members selected in January? How is it possible for any of these students to be a four-year all state band member already? Totally not meaning to bash or call anyone a liar. Just wondering.
  19. I was getting Bell 2007 vibes from the visual, too.
  20. It's tough to see, but it is nice to see new faces rise to the top in their place.
  21. Ugh I am so incredibly proud of all of these Texas groups! All of them have the potential to medal. Cant wait to see Round Rock later.
  22. Way to go Hebron! I love this show. So inspiring!
