  1. Are there bands that arent performing at area that qualified or is thia area only taking 2 groups? Thats pretty tough with Highland Park and Forney doing so well this year. Poteet is always great and several other promising groups here like North Forney and Red Oak.
  2. I could be mistaken but I thought Harlingen was like the Duncanville of south texas- consistently making state?
  3. Wow Azle! Thats got to bode well for them going into such a tough area. I wonder if Rockwall will be competitive for the last spot in 6A area C? Prosper seems the clear favorite, but weird things happen at area sometimes.
  4. Wow- Im a bit surprised by North Crowley. Im not extremely familiar with their program, but I recall them being fairly decent in the not too distant past.
  5. Thank you so much! I was mostly just curious. Thanks for providing the prediction game for us
  6. I'm just curious- how are ties on the captions treated for the prediction game? For instance, I predicted Marcus winning the "marching" caption at DFW and didn't get any points, but people who put Flower Mound did get points. I'm just curious if there is a criteria here, I know its not really that important.
  7. Dont forget that Cedar Park was not in finals in 2019. Round Rock, Pearland, and Westlake DID make finals though so if we consider them as groups that are fighting for the last spots, that means that there are 4 spots open for groups like Cedar Ridge, Rouse, Coppell, Round Rock, Westlake, Westwood, Pearland, and Cy Woods. (Groups I think have the best shot.)
  8. I am an 8th grade teacher and it BLOWS MY MIND that the students playing this music are only 1-4 years older than my students. They are playing such technically difficult stuff. That was incredible.
  9. Is anyone watching the stream? Its not showing us the field. We've just got a zoom call up...
  10. I agree- I think Wakeland's show will fare really well at State.
  11. That's the top 5 I would have expected (with the exception of maybe switching out College Park with Cy Fair or North Shore, but College Park is in a good bounce back year)
  12. If I remember correctly, Princeton didn't do exhibition because they had homecoming. I think they should perform tonight.
  13. Woah! No Waxahachie and no Haltom. I'm impressed to see 4 AAA bands here.
  14. Waxahachie has grown a lot recently. I think they might be AAAA now.
  15. Wow! Its not that often that such a strong bunch is in the first block. I'm really curious to see how Buda Johnson does against some of the more known powers. Also curious about Summit, Rouse, and Colleyville Heritage and I know virtually nothing about Rock Hill, but I've got to imagine they are in contention for finals.
  16. I dont know if you remember their 2019 show, Fearless, but I felt very similarly for the first part of the season because Keller always plays the long game and doesn't have the whole show out until their final competitions. The closer that year never got cleaned exceptionally well but was awesome. Very crazy drill and exceptional music. I expect something similar this year which is why it is taking them so long to get the show on the field.
  17. This might be the most competitive BOA DFW we have had (at least in a long time) in regards to making finals. There are 16+ very good bands that would likely make finals in any other regional (except Austin probably).
  18. Thats too bad, because Highland Park and Forney are likely state finals qualifiers, which doesnt leave much space for anyone else.
  19. You don't think Keller falls under the "most likely" category? Their shows are always pretty UIL heavy on state years- they almost always do better in State Finals than BOA San Antonio finals and haven't missed state in years.
  20. Considering this is pulling from the same group of bands as the BOA DFW contest, this is a very good lineup.
  21. Based on the McAllen results, I would expect to see Del Rio in the bottom half of finals. Maybe around 8th looking at your list.
  22. That feels like a lifetime ago
  23. I think it is important to realize that those of us in this community are biased towards seeing highly competitive contests and seeing bands compete at a high level, but this is not the only thing that band programs are concerned about. Smaller local contests are important fundraisers for many bands and are also opportunities to make connections and help smaller programs to improve. As said before, competing at these contests can also provide a boost of confidence. Another example: There are a number of small contests that occur each year on the dame day as BOA DFW in the DFW metroplex and some programs that are quite involved in BOA choose to attend these instead. Some may say this is a mistake because the BOA contest is the biggest and most competitive, but there is a lot to be said about the loyalty of attending these contests. It is also somewhat interesting to see what happens when these groups from different contests come together for UIL or BOA San Antonio. Groups like Wylie get overlooked nearly every year because they don't typically compete against many top bands until San Antonio.
  24. Thats a good list. grapevine will likely be in contention for finals as well. There are a few other notable groups but that seems about as good as I could predict.
