  1. Woah is that actually true? That's very impressive. I know they were in the area with the schools out west for part of that but still!
  2. That's not what this is. The Woodlands won the prelims contest so saying otherwise is lying.
  3. As a band fan, it actually is sad how few contests I have been to. But when I was in 7th grade, my sister's band made state and my parents and I drove to San Antonio to see her perform. Even though we were only able to stay for one block and her band didnt make finals, it was one of my favorite experiences ever at a band contest and it meant so much to her.
  4. Yay Roma! Also that first block is pretty intense. We don't usually see so many finalist caliber bands so early.
  5. Looks like Keller was pretty dominant actually. The scores look closer between Keller and Waxahachie but that is basically only because of the drumline.
  6. Being from Keller myself, I would love to have Fossil Ridge in finals here, but I don't think it is very likely. There are so many good bands that are going to be left out. It isn't quite as crazy as 2018 without Prosper, Summit, and Richland, but still ridiculously competitive. I mean look at just some of the other bands that are competing here: L.D. Bell Berkner Boswell Southlake Carroll Keller Central Coppell Duncanville Haltom Keller Lake Highlands Lake Ridge Mansfield James Martin JJ Pearce Richardson Timber Creek Trinity Waxahachie
  7. This is correct. UIL uses ordinal placements as opposed to raw scores. It is important to note that the judges are aware of this and only give the scores in order to place the bands. There have been situations where judges give significantly different raw scores just in order to keep their rankings clear for themselves. The score margins do not mean anything for UIL.
  8. This thread is getting obnoxious and new people seem to be creating accounts just to further comment. Any chance we can lock it? I don't like what this is subtly doing to my opinion of Legacy.
  9. Well clearly the size of the band can't be everything when the second smallest group qualified for state. I think all of these groups should be proud of making finals because this was a tough area.
  10. I had Rock Hill in my predictions around the same place. I'm expecting big things from them.
  11. I could likely be mistaken! I was just trying to relay what I knew but if the information says something else, definitely believe that!
  12. Coppell is going to San Antonio but neither Prosper nor SL Carroll are going this year. All will be fighting for state spots at their area competitions next week. Coppell and Southlake in Area B which will take 5 groups. Other notable groups in this area include Keller, L.D. Bell, Waxahachie, Timber Creek, Duncanville, Haltom, Lake Ridge, Mansfield, Keller Central, Martin, Pearce, Richardson... Prosper in area C which will take 4 groups. Other notable groups in this area include Flower Mound, Hebron, Marcus, Wylie, Rockwall, Plano East, Allen, McKinney, John Horn... (Those are not exhaustive lists but the groups that in my mind have the best shot of beating out the aforementioned bands)
  13. This area is super competitive and many of the groups have increased their participation in BOA over the last few years, which I think has helped bring up the level. Plus several of these groups had competed last go around in 6A area B.
  14. This area is only taking 3 spots and Highland Park and Forney have been exceptional this year, so it would be tough, but I suppose possible. I haven't seen Poteet, but they always do great at UIL.
  15. Wow if that is the reverse order then my predictions were right on track here.
  16. I think they all would have announced before now if they weren't going to state, as a couple others already have (Bowie and The Woodlands, I think?)
  17. I mean, I expect Waxahachie to make state, but there is nothing wrong with people predicting otherwise... Especially when Southlake Carroll has improved so much over the last 2 years and has a great show. You might as well get mad about people predicting Duncanville won't qualify for state given their "history" is even stronger than Waxahachie's.
  18. I've never been one to get sensitive over things like this, but I also felt that the design choices in Aledo's show seemed off. Particularly the music choices in junction with the theme. Yes, the Prince of Egypt takes place in Egypt, but it is more about the enslaved Jews than about the Egyptians.
  19. I agree withthe top 3. How is Paetow this year?
  20. Personally I think Marcus is going to do better than barely making it in. In their 3 grand nats appearances, the worst they have done is 5th place (and they never even went during their dominant years). Their show may not be super flashy but people underestimate how effective their artistry in musicianship and clean drill can be.
  21. I wish they would come to more local BOA contests. I always liked them. When I was in show choir, Mabank brought a group to the show choir contest that we went to and even though they were super small, they did so well (top half) . They were a crowd favorite, too. They only had 3 girls and 2 guys in the whole show choir.
  22. Dont forget about Johnson. They could certainly nab a spot.
  23. Are there bands that arent performing at area that qualified or is thia area only taking 2 groups? Thats pretty tough with Highland Park and Forney doing so well this year. Poteet is always great and several other promising groups here like North Forney and Red Oak.
  24. I could be mistaken but I thought Harlingen was like the Duncanville of south texas- consistently making state?
