  1. The threshold will be determined once the snapshot numbers are available for all schools. Typically the threshold has been rising for each classification each year. At some point in the not so distant future there will likely be a 7a added in as there are so many schools all clustered around the same size that it causes some weird stuff with balancing the classes. I have no idea what to expect for the schools you mentioned as I haven't really followed where the 4a schools are at enrollment wise but I will say that with the growth happening in Anna, I don't expect it to stay a 4a school much longer. Melissa already moved up to 5a this past realignment.
  2. That third block from Haltom to Lake Highlands pitches several finals bubble bands next to each other which I think is really good for the direct comparison.
  3. Let's not count it guaranteed yet. Weird penalties and issues can plague even the best bands. We've seen things with Wakeland and Allen in recent years. But given that there is a high chance now of getting seven bands at state from this area, I'm really excited to see which groups are going to step up to the opportunity.
  4. Yes, every two years, UIL reclassifies schools and then they realign the regions and areas and things like that as needed. It is worth noting that there isn't a golden number for enrollment to be 5a or 6a, it is comparative to other school's enrollment. They have been doing about 250 in each of the higher classifications, so basically if your school is one of the 250 largest in the state then it is in 6a, based on the numbers submitted by each school on snapshot day. That's oversimplifying it a little but the general gist.
  5. I will always root for success in the Fossil Ridge program. Growing up, I had many friends that went there and I know they lacked a lot of the privileges and advantages of the other Keller schools. It would be awesome to see them make finals here. This area also includes a good number of economically disadvantaged schools, particularly in the inner city parts of the metro. I imagine it can be hard being a student at one of these schools and seeing some of the amazing opportunities students at other schools have, but I hope these students know how proud we are of all of their hard work, no matter how their band places.
  6. I feel like Keller's final product is going to be stronger than it has been the past two years based on what I've seen so far and the potential for the show. I hope they make the theme and visual program a bit more immersive, though. That said, I'm a bit worried about Area this year, as it will be several weeks before the end of Keller's season and they tend to make huge progress in their final week or two (and I think they do that on purpose). I have trouble seeing six bands beating them out for state spots though. I'd guess they land somewhere in the 3-5 range. Hopefully they can keep their streak of state finals appearances too but I'm worried about that.
  7. The number of competitors also can make a difference as the judges are trying to differentiate the bands by gapping the scores they receive. So a band who gets 20th place in prelims at a big contest like Austin or DFW may be scored lower than they would with the exact same performance placing 5th at a smaller regional with less big names. In my opinion scores are worth looking at but not putting much stock into. I usually pay attention to the high score of the contest and how much of a gap there is between the top placing bands and that is helpful but beyond that scores are pretty meaningless to me.
  8. I might be dense, but I'm not following what you meant in this comment.
  9. I think Wakeland will be in finals. LD Bell and Timber Creek have good shots too. We will see how they do this weekend.
  10. I agree, I think Wakeland is the favorite. There will be several bands in contention for medals here though.
  11. I know everyone loves a good upset or a new band rising to the top of the ranks, but it is worth noting that with all of the success Keller has had over the years, they still do not have a regional title.
  12. The football forum seems to talk a lot about the 7a classification. Consensus seems like it's not quite there yet, but that it will soon be needed to alleviate the overcrowding 4a and 5a classifications because so many schools have enrollment numbers within a very small range (say 1600-2100) and as new schools are getting built this will only go up.
  13. Probably has more to do with where those commenting or posting are from. It makes sense that people from Dallas are more focused on Dallas regionals and the same for Houston.
  14. Oh wow. Area C keeps getting harder and harder. I know moving the prosper schools there just added a ton of depth and then the Wylie and McKinney schools and now Forney. Plus Braswell showed they are a force this year. Gonna be a tough fight for the final state spots at area C in the future.
  15. North Forney is currently in 6A area B, right? If that stays the same, we are talking about adding Forney to what is already a ridiculously deep Area B. 😩
  16. I imagine Vandegrift will have one more cycle of 6A, although I'm not sure when Leander ISD plans to do boundary realignments for their schools to adjust for all of the growth in Rouse and Glenn. Both of those schools could be going up to 6A this alignment or next. I'm curious to see about the Mansfield schools. They have been teetering the edge during recent realignments. New schools also make things interesting.
  17. Agreed! I didn't want to be the one to say it, but people always predict the sky is falling for Keller every year and then they prove themselves time and time again. They have shown to be late season bloomers and always have awesome final movements that don't premier until the end of the season. This show already seems like it has more potential to me than the last two years. I will say that it seems we have a really strong Timber Creek this year, which I'm happy to see. Good to see Wakeland and Forney doing awesome at this contest too. I think they will compete well at 5a UIL state. And Marcus is just doing Marcus. They are nothing if not consistent.
  18. Way to go Braswell! I had a feeling they were going to medal, but winning is awesome and a great sign of growth for that (relatively new) program
  19. I've been busy today, but I hopped on the Livestream on my phone for ten minutes earlier to watch Keller's performance. They sounded really good from what I could hear. I love the regal sounding fanfare opening in their show.
  20. Wow, I'm very impressed by Wylie East!
  21. It was probably an oversight. I was surprised when I looked earlier and they weren't even in the next 10.
  22. Way to go Rouse!!!! I don't even think they were ranked in last week's Hornrank rankings.
  23. My (totally uneducated) order from what I saw: Vista Ridge Vandegrift Rouse Cedar Park Cedar Ridge Lake Travis Round Rock Leander Westlake Westwood (I didn't get to see Dripping Springs or Bowie)
  24. Cedar Ridge has a fun show and is definitely a crowd pleaser.
  25. That Cedar Park show is a GE monster. So many amazingly cool moments. It also seems VERY difficult and it's early season.
