So many technical passages being played flawlessly by LT and I love that they are putting dynamics into them instead of playing them all fortissimo.
-
OMG I thought those were people until a few fell over

Vista Ridge has been my favorite so far. I love their show design and they perform with such passion!
-
How does box5 not anticipate the capacity issues with this contest every year? Also Vandegrift was amazing. I don't know how they already look so clean and sound so good.
-
I wish I was able to see Round Rock's show more cohesively but what I saw was really gorgeous visually and had some great moments musically. I love those flags and the pretty guard uniforms!
-
Is my internet just really bad or is the stream going in and out for everyone else, too?
-
I love Leander's symphonic ensemble sound! That's a great show, can't wait to see how it grows.

Loved that woodwind feature in Westlake opener.

Ok I've finally tuned in! Caught the last half of Westwood.

TxBands 2023 Predictions!

Whoops totally forgot to do predictions for tomorrow's contests. Looks like I won't be in the running this year 😅 -
2023 BOA Grand National Championships (Nov. 9-11)

I'm glad you are loving it there! NW Arkansas is really beautiful. -
I'm going to have to hard disagree. There is a reason a very high percentage of finalists at BOA competitions and UIL competitions overlap. Great bands will succeed in either circuit. I think your flawed reasoning comes from a mistake a lot of people make- that General Effect means Design. General Effect is influenced by quality design, but only insomuch as a band performs what is given to them exceptionally. But GE is in itself a measure of both execution and showmanship and will be influenced by the show's difficulty. The top bands will be doing shows will lots of effect and will execute at a high level, so they tend to do well at both UIL and BOA. I do think when it comes to smaller bands in UIL classes 4a or smaller, it isn't very practical to expect most bands to have the resources to develop a BOA style show and that's fine. I'm not sure however where these bands that only do BOA and not UIL are that you mentioned?

Honestly I think Wylie is as good as either of them. Will just come down to the performances that day.
-
I think Wylie is going to medal here

If anyone has a video of Keller can you send it to me in a PM? It's the one I most want to see and yet they are usually some of the hardest to find.
-
Keller Central and Timber Creek were so good last year. I can't wait for the time when all three make it to state or into finals at San Antonio
-
Ok cool. I wasn't sure if maybe it happened in the 90s or something but I know that as long as I've followed they have never been behind them. I like the trajectory of Carroll right now though. I'm hoping they will continue to improve. They've definitely got the resources.

Early season videos

Oh that's really sad! I know those are important nights for the band, too because it shows the middle schoolers what they have to look forward to and helps with retention. -
Interesting prediction. Anyone know the last time Southlake Carroll beat Keller?

Looks like a lot of north Texas games were delayed or canceled mid game so I think a lot of bands missed in a possible performance. -
Area C is probably the strongest at the top which means fewer spots for anyone else to make it to state, but area B is deeper which means lots of deserving bands with not enough spots to give to them all.

2023 BOA San Antonio Super Regional (Nov. 3 & 4)
LostChoirGuy replied to LeanderMomma's topic in UIL: Upcoming Contests
I'm hoping one of the other Keller schools can show up strong and keep KISD represented in finals here. Both TC and KC were so good last year and really close to making it in. -
Thank you for sharing that! It seems he joined the staff shortly after I moved away and has been involved in much of the band's recent success. That makes me feel better.

I must admit that I don't know Mr. Heath. Can you tell me more about him?
