How does the Rose Bowl Invitation work? exciting for Vista for sure.
It’s basically the highest placing band that wants it.

Everyone else is playing for second.

I’ve been a Round Rock fan for a while, and was a massive defender of them in 2017 and 2019. But I just don’t think it happens this time. It’s not the kids—they’re doing their job and pushing hard. It’s the show. I would love to be proved wrong, but…

By outro, do you mean the thing the announcer reads as they are rolling everything off the field after the performance? If so, thanks for noticing and listening--I wrote that! (Rhyming something with Midwest Clinic, not so easy!)
You’re my favorite!!! If you’re in Indy I would love to offer an adult beverage as thanks for the highlight of the season after prelims or finals!

They finished the job.

If someone sees the prelims sheets early, tell us what bands were just out of finals!
Area E
Area ITough night for Houston (also don't flood my DMs asking for the recaps).

One off. And I'm told that the band I missed was incredibly close. One slightly off judge was enough.
-
I know there's a little bit left tonight, but I already have my prediction/medium take.
Every finalist from Saturday night that is eligible to repeat, will.
And you only have to look a tenth away
For the second band joining FloMo Tuesday. -
Flower Mound had a run with a lot of timing and tuning issues. Tuning is an easy fix, but the kids are super spread out across the field the entire show and they’re juggling tons of responsibilities. Unless they had booked time at The Star or Jerry World, it’s also their first Dome performance of the season while all of their competition has had two runs already.
However, the show itself is incredible. And the biggest difference from Vitrify is that the kids are bought in and performing. I think that’ll take them a long way this week. Medal is far far FAR from out of the question tomorrow and Saturday.
and the outro SLAYED me.

The draw SHOULD be blind to school distance from San Antonio. Otherwise, schools farther away would get the more coveted Prelims times, and how is that fair?
Indiana split the difference pretty well for Semi-State, which is effectively their State prelims.
The six closest draw for the first spot. Then for each following spot, you add the next closest group. That way, the closer groups are more likely to go first, but can still pull spots to the end. The furthest groups can at least spare an early performance—which could even potentially save a group thousands of dollars that not every program or school district necessarily has.

I noticed another one of Vista's props showed up - the huge turning table also from their 2019 show. That sucker was heavy. I forgot which school used it - Coppell or Keller maybe? It was the carnival theme. That same turning table was bought from a DCI band. Good to see these recycled.
Coppell! And I’m sure it’ll continue to travel.

A whole lot of Austin in the next ten‼️‼️, plus the medalist and the other five finalists!

Perhaps I missed something, but when did they start allowing judges back onto the field? I know they made a rule in 2019 restricting them to the sidelines.
DCI did, but BOA never followed.

I loved that Pearland made finals in 2019, but their show stood out for being waaay easier than the rest of the field come finals. This year’s show took a massive step up in visual and especially music demand, and the band worked hard and rode it into finals again.
They’re the first band from Houston, outside of TWHS, to back-to-back in San Antonio since Spring a decade ago. I hope they ride this wave for a long while. They’ve arrived as far as I’m concerned, and cemented themselves as Houston’s clear #2.

lucky draw
Lucky draw for finals. They picked their slot for prelims because they won.

LD Bell and Westfield, too! Marcus and Flower Mound both need to add a Grand Nats win to their belts in order to join them, and The Woodlands needs to win a SMBC Finals. Vandegrift has not yet won a SMBC finals in the highest classification group, but in order to have a win at all three, they just need to pull at San Antonio SR.
Edit: It would also be incorrect for me not to mention CTJ with winning last year's SMBC Finals and 2 San Antonio SR wins.
Oh yes! I forgot that Westfield won the very first San Antonio Super Regional. Barely there, but there!
-
LD Bell is the only band to have done all those things, but not in the same year.
-
I remember seeing Prosper in 2019 in San Antonio prelims and seriously expecting to see them again later that evening. Not sure this would have been their year, but I’m also pretty sure their time isn’t far away.
-
Dobyns-Bennett won’t win a caption or medal in this field, but the show itself is extremely special and I think it’ll give them the wheels to get into finals—perhaps with comfort.
