Wills Point H.S., TX
Windermere H.S., FLI don't mean to sound disrespectful to Wills Point, but all that I have looked shows that while we have never heard of them in the BOA world, I do not see that they have competed in BOA in DFW (their closest event) or at any BOA event in 2018 or 2019. to think that they are making a trek to Indy without tipping their toes into the BOA realm is not a likely event. - again, no disrespect intended, but I am just not buying that

Looks like you were on to something with this back in December as it would appear that Flower Mound has indeed decided to forgo BOA San Antonio in order to compete in UIL and at GN this November.
Funny how that works... an I reading minds? ?

Of the supposedly confirmed groups, 14 potential finalists immediately caught my eye, which is an unusually high number. (Thank you, big Texas contingent!)
Avon
Broken Arrow
Carmel
CTJ
Dobyns-Bennett*
Flower Mound
Homestead*
Marcus
Reagan
Round Rock*
Tarpon Springs
TWHS*
Vista Ridge
William Mason*
Insane that I'm no longer including groups like Marian Catholic. ? The asterisks are next to the groups I view as most "at-risk" of missing finals. This is of course based on results from the past few years and is very premature, especially since we don't know exactly how everyone has been affected by the pandemic. (Regarding that, I'm not super concerned about any of the groups we saw at UIL State this past year, although the shows weren't as challenging as usual in general.) Anyway, since I'm playing, I'll comment a little bit.
I think it could be difficult for Round Rock to topple Dobyns-Bennett, TWHS, or William Mason, which they'll have to do to make finals. They'll also need to top Homestead. They beat Homestead in finals at the 2019 GN event, but they lost to them in semis at that same event. So, the result of this match-up is sort of up in the air in my mind. There's always room for surprises, of course.
I could see TWHS losing to both Dobyns-Bennett and William Mason. Lost to both groups in the past two finals they were in, but beat both groups in semis. So, again, kind of up in the air. A weaker year could see TWHS beaten by both, and then if Blue Springs also goes, or some other up and coming group like Pearland has a great year, that could be a surprising finals shutout. First time in 20 years?
I'm curious to see if Blue Springs, Haltom, L.D. Bell, and/or Pearland also make the trip, which I think would make this for sure the most competitive finals line-up ever. I think it probably already is.
One of the most exciting things about this lineup for me is that we've supposedly got every San Antonio Champion since 2012 attending. If L.D. Bell decides to go, that will make it every SA Champion since 2003. (Knowing our luck, though, some other group not attending Nats will win SA this year.) Of the TX groups, I'm leaning toward CTJ making the biggest splash, mainly because their show this past year was excellent and seemed the most challenging. Reagan will probably still be outstanding, despite supposedly losing their head director. Well-oiled machine type of program.
I agree with your assessment. 2018 saw only 1 Texas Band making the trek, 2019 saw 6 programs and all 6 made finals but that year did not see Broken Arrow, Blue Springs, Tarpon, Wando, Dobbs-Bennett. While even the 7 programs that has been mostly confirmed from Texas could change between now and August, and we could even see some additional programs decide to make the trek beyond those 7.
It will be interesting to see what the Texas footprint will be in the finals, but I think it could be 5 or more spots.
I feel we have some great 6A programs making the trek this year and have a chance to see some medals come back to Texas - maybe even a return of Kevin

this is 1 of 2 designs and will include the names of the attending schools on the back as we have done in the past, Both come in Black and Navy and come in both cotton and dry-fit materials. We will also have long sleeve T-shirts, hoodies, ball caps, wool caps and scarves.
We have partnered with a vendor that will allow online ordering without going through the booster clubs (since you are no longer have Leandermomma in Texas to do an early morning pick up on my doorstep the morning of BOA San Antonio)
The store will be open for a few weeks and then will close and orders will be processed and shipped to the customers home (anywhere in the country). The first order cycle will open around late July as camps are opening and will close by late August to get all orders delivered before the first Texas BOA regional event. if there is enough demand we will reopen the online store in early October for 2 weeks to have orders filled prior to BOA SA, UIL State, and Grand Nationals.
we will post the store link on this site, HornRank, and our "#teamtexas 2021 Grand Nats" Facebook page as well as ask the booster programs of participating programs to promote it as well.
our goal is to have a sea of these shirts in Indy in November as our Texas Bands invade Indy again
I welcome everyone's thoughts and support on these.

They have a wonderful teacher (she teaches math the rest of the day) that teaches them during their class time who has a great dance background and works with them on choreography a lot. The Twhs guard director - Ms Robbins goes in and directs their practices and designed the Jv and varsity group programs. Just this last week Ms Robbins had a directors spotlight done on her on the tcgc Facebook/Instagram.
The program has been gradually building the last few years as they were able to get a class approved for a pe credit at the school. We had the same jaw dropping reaction when we saw them and their skills in person for the first time this year.when my daughter was in guard years ago, I was always amazed at the number of middle schools that had programs for guard - outside of Texas. it has been slow to catch on her but Mccullough has been impressive. one of our guard alumni members recently started at our feeder school as a teacher and got approval to teach guard class but then Covid hit - hoping it gets up and running for the 2021-22 school year. I think that is one of the things that holds back the Texas programs from competing at remaining in World Class. so many do well at the SO level and advance only to be moved back to SO a few years later because they cannot compete. I also noted that there are a number of programs that have strong WGI teams that do not have strong band programs. I understand that is mostly due to lack of funding and it is easier to fundraise for 20-30 members for WGI (and is voluntary) VS funding a entire competitive band. Hopeful middle school programs will continue to grow here in Texas.

Personally, I dont think Wando will be able to keep up with the others on that list this year with their school split. We'll see if they prove me wrong.
yes, it will impact Wando, and at some point the new school may surpass the old one. We saw the same thing when CTJ split off from Reagan in 2008. Reagan went from 5th at BOA-SA in 2007 to 14th place in 2008 and 2009. 2010 Reagan was 6th and CTJ was 10th at San Antonio and 2011 Reagan was 12th while CTJ finished San Antonio in 5th and made finals at Grand Nats. Wando is the best marching program in SC - it will be interesting to see who they react to the split on top of the Covid impact.

My kid will be at college at this point. However she did mention that maybe this could be a Mom/Daughter kind of thing for us to do. I'll yell loud for TeamTexas for sure.
I can vouch for how fun of a mother/daughter trip it is after they have graduated. ♥️
My daughter was at GNats in 2011 as a freshman, our son was at Gnats as a freshman in 2019 and she joined us to cheer for her brother. my son is getting s second GNats shot in 2021 and she wants to go. Since she is married now she is debating the trip. 2019 was a great time to see my daughter cheering for her brother and her alma mater in Indy.

So - I know that there are a great deal of "known" programs attending Grand Nats - but these are the ones that I know
we know that there are 12 spots for the finals at Grand Nats and Texas may own half of then, as they did in 2019
Based on the known participants we have to assume the following as 5 of the 6 known participants are repeat finalists.
- CTJ
- Ronald Reagan
- Round Rock
- FlowerMound
- TWHS
the last band is Vista Ridge - a Texas 6A UIL state Champion - I assume we will see them as well.
Get ready - we know that there are more bands , but Texas is bringing their "A" game in 2021

Still, it matters what they have to put on the field next year, not what anyone had this year. Round Rock has been 4 times before and made the finals each time even in years that they didn't make the finals in San Antonio. I wouldn't leave them out of the list of likely finalists. Statistics are nerd play and I enjoy that as well, but experience with what it takes to make the finals in Indy is a huge factor. Neither Vista Ridge or Pearland have that at this point. Of course, I am not saying that they don't have a chance or a good chance. What they have next year will determine that.
I understand that you are obviously a Round Rock fan - just as I am a CTJ fan - but understand that I used 2019 results as that is the last full year we had all shows on the field and competing against each other. my bigger concern would be the programs that did not have a competitive season in 2020 and will now have both a freshman and sophomore class that have to learn the competitive marching season as well as deal with what could be a significant drop in size due to non-participation. to my knowledge, non of the Austin area schools had a competitive season and will be in that boat.
I wish Round Rock all the best and look forward to what they have on the field in 6 months

We will have to see who the attendees will be - how many other powerhouse programs make the trek from Texas? how many non-Texas powerhouse programs will be there? I know it may be outdated because we did not have a true 2020 season, but the 2019 BOA SA had the following finalists - the programs in bold CONFIRMED to attend
- 3 - Vista Ridge - No Competitive 2020 Season
- 7 - Claudia Taylor Johnson - 2020 UIL 6A State Champion
- 8 - The Woodlands - 2020 UIL 6A State Finalist
- 9 - FlowerMound - 2020 UIL 6A Bronze Medalist
- 11 - James Bowie - No Competitive 2020 Season
- 12 - Round Rock - No Competitive 2020 Season
- 14 - Pearland -
I think the best case is that Texas may take 4-5 finals spots at Grand Nats - I think that the impact on the 2021 season for those that did not have any form of competitive season could be a large Freshman and Sophomore class that are truly new to the marching arts. there ability to navigate that will impact their seasons. it should be a great season and we are hoping for something that resembles normal.

There is a certain point where we have so many Texas bands that we start pushing our own out of the finals, but it is nice to see a large contingent attend. I so hope we get to have a normal or near normal marching season this year. It's definitely going to be a rebuilding year for most bands.
I agree, with 7 bands that appear to have confirmed and still a few more that are still likely to announce, we may in fact be pushing out some other Texas bands. in 2019 all 6 Texas bands made finals and placed in the top 10 in semi finals, but it was a year that did not see a number of powerhouse programs that would normally attend - Tarpon, Broken Arrow, Blue Springs to name but a few. If they make appearances in 2021 it will limit the number of Texas Bands that will advance. CTJ, Vista Ridge, Bowie and Pearland would be likely finalist. I have not seen that Wills Point or Jack C Hays are normally BOA participants so I am not familiar with their levels or where they will land.
I am also hopeful that we can have something closer to a normal year this marching season and it is exciting to see so many bands from Texas making their first trek to Indy.

Just a reminder to join our facebook page to follow the Texas Bands making the trek to Indy in November. I have seen statements that there are 6 bands that have committed to Grand Nats.
- CTJ
- Vista Ridge
- Pearland
- Round Rock
- Wills Point
- Jack C Hays
there are also 9 rumored programs - while I am sure it will change in the coming months as we start to see the programs actually committed through BOA - but this could be the largest #TeamTexas contingent ever in Indy
be sure to join our Facebook group to follow all the programs as they go through their season leading up to Grand Nats
Look for us on Facebook - search #Team Texas 2021 Grand Nats - you can join the group even if you or your program is not attending. it is a private group that will ask for your school - this is just to keep the spammers that attempt to join to get your personal info.

Reagan has BOA Houston, TX Marching Classic, all UIL events, BOASA, and Grand Nationals on their calendar. All of it is marked as "tentative," which I assume is due to ongoing uncertainty over the COVID situation, rather than the announcement that the head director is leaving at the end of this school year.
all of those competitions are their routine years with the exception of BOA Grand Nats - I think that may have been added when last years event got cancelled due to Covid. I would be surprised to see them do Grand Nats in 2021 with a new director especially since a new director has not been named and they did not compete last year so they could, like many others have a freshman and sophomore class that are new to a full marching season.
If they go - I wish them luck and I will be there cheering for the them

It is going to be interesting to see how well all the programs recover. Even though most programs did some sort of marching show in 2020, you still have 2 years worth of students who don't have a lot of experience performing a full length, high level show. Rouse HS was one of the rising stars in 5A. Is COVID going to set the program back a couple of years? Only time will tell.
I agree and was not discounting Vandy, Reagan or any other program this coming year, just that Vista and CTJ are going to see each other a number of time (more than usual) with TMC and State before matching up in Indy. it should be great year for all programs and I wish them all the best

this year is shaping up to be an epic season for Texas Bands. Looks like Vista Ridge and CTJ will get a chance to square off many times prior to Grand Nats. BOA Austin, TMC, (Possibly Area as well at Kelly Reeves) BOA SA and then UIL State as the past 2 State 6A Champs before making the trek to Indy. I have no doubt that both programs will have a pumped up show for their grand nats trip. Will be interesting to see what other programs announce a trip to Indy.
also interested to see what impact Covid has on program size. I have heard that many of the middle schools and even high school have seen some serious decline in membership. some kids gave up on music during the virtual school - middle school kids that abandoned music in 7th or 8th grade may never recover to participate in high school band. that could have a significant impact on the size of many programs. time will tell.

True - but it could just be an issue of costs for an additional trip and/or stay in San Antonio in a year when they are planning a trip to Indy. also could be a matter of driving VS flying to Indy, or doing 7 performances in 8 days - sorry to see FloMo not go to San Antonio but excited to see them in Indy
