UIL July 2019 MAC
Samuel Culper replied to NETexasBandFan's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
There would be no need to book the Alamodome for an Area contest. It's just not big enough. BOA-SA is a massive event. No way would the City of San Antonio give up that event in the Dome for an Area contest. If nothing else, the Chamber of Commerce would go ape****. BOA-SA sells a lot of hotel rooms in addition to all that goes on at the Dome. -

Yeah, but again, it's not gonna happen. -
I went back to the beginning of this thread and looked at DOWNVOTES ONLY for the last 12 shows on the list in the game. Total downvotes looked like this through post #867: Leonardo's Dream 4 On the Waterfront 11 Loop 14 Tremendous Sea of Love 16 Polarity 18 Pop! 20 The 4th Dimension 24 Symphony of Silence 24 Change is the Only Constant 24 Sculpt 30 Uncharted Waters 82 Lost and Found 133 TOTAL 400 I'm sure my counts are not 100% accurate, but they are definitely close. Items of note: WENDY had cast 17 downvotes among the 12 bands, 15 of those to Lost and Found, at the time she was asked to leave due to multiple voting "errors". The next day katytrailnorth joined the game and has since cast 35 votes against L&F The 35 by katytrailnorth against L&F are 2nd most downvotes for a single program to hipkerr's 42. Also against L&F. Notably, hipkerr and katytrailnorth both shifted to downvotes against The 4th Dimension in the last few days after both casting daily downvotes against L&F for the last month plus. There are 13 voters with at least 10 downvotes total to the final 12 programs. Of those, 5 downvoted L&F most. 3 downvoted Uncharted Waters most. 61 of 63 downvotes by hipkerr are aimed at Leander ISD bands. 40 of 44 by katytrainorth are at Leander ISD. (WENDY was 17 for 17). TWHSParent spreads the wealth like no other, casting at least one downvote against every one of the final 12, except On the Waterfront. Of course. Yes, I only looked at downvotes and I understand that, to an extent, upvotes attract downvotes. But overall, I think upvotes are a different dynamic, people naturally support the "home" team - al la TWHSParent. I think the numbers do point to some axe grinding, which is why I left the game. I don't get that kind of thinking. Enjoy your day and Happy Marching Season!

That would be massively problematic and breathtakingly shortsighted. And there would be big blowback on the UIL. Not gonna happen. -

Fair enough. So, assuming a cutoff of 2800 and 10 bands in each Finals (and all else being the same)... Division 1 Finals: Flower Mound CTJ Hebron Ronald Reagan Keller Marcus The Woodlands Round Rock Oak Ridge Coppell Division 2 Finals: Vista Ridge Vandegrift Leander Waxahachie Cedar Ridge Westlake John Horn Hendrickson Clements Brazoswood -

I can only assume it would be done by size, like the split at 1A-5A for all sports now. Eyeballing the rank order of 6A for the current alignment, an equal split between D1 and D2 would put the cutoff around 2600. That assumes all of the non-traditional schools in 6A would be classified as D2. Otherwise it would be closer to 2800. The 12 finalist bands from last year look like this in the rank order: The Woodlands - 4435 Flower Mound - 3618 Hebron - 3584 Ronald Reagan - 3518 Marcus - 3275 CTJ - 3083 Keller - 2995 Cedar Ridge - 2855 Vandegrift - 2582 Vista Ridge - 2345 Waxahachie - 2235 Leander - 2199 So, assuming all else says the same, medalists would have looked like this: Division 1 Gold - Flower Mound Silver - Hebron Bronze - Ronald Reagan Division 2 Gold - Vista Ridge Silver - Vandegrift Bronze - Leander Yes, this assumes a lot and the bigger impact would be on who makes it to State, who makes Finals, etc. Just taking a quick cut at the top from 2018. -
LBJ High School in Austin is also the Jaguars.

I don't think anybody is claiming cost isn't an issue for Texas bands to go to GNats. What LeanderMomma is saying is that cost is not the reason why fewer non-Texas heavy hitters are going to GNats this year vs other years.
