AvonDad - I was at the UIL 6A State contest last fall and, as is my practice, stood to applaud every band that performed. And I found myself getting really irritated at everyone around me who seemed to be sitting on their hands. It was so annoying. I agree with you wholeheartedly. It's such a great activity and I will applaud any kid who dedicates themself to it.

If you have each page inside plastic sleeves, that should be minimized.

I understand how it feels like it's the same bands over and over because it's "fixed", but it's not. So many bands are consistently at the top, because they are THAT GOOD. You see movement in and out of the top groups every year. If your band seems to never move up into the top groups, it can feel "fixed". The money thing is another matter. I'd love to see a detailed summary of their finances, particularly on a contest-by-contest basis. They bring in a lot of money and depend on a lot of local volunteers to do most of the work. Yes, those volunteers are working for a local organization (boosters) that benefits from the contest, but I am very curious about how the proceeds are split. But, they are a private organization. Transparency is not gonna happen.

I agree. The bands that are BOA regulars will not skip SA for a shot at an Area championship in a non-state year. But I can see how it would appeal to non-BOA bands.

It definitely makes it feel must less like a friendly game and more like a grudge or axe-grinding exercise. Certainly not against any rules, but not the spirit of the game to my mind. And not something I want to be part of. Y'all have fun out there downvoting Lost & Found. I'm out. Peace.

I don't disagree with any of this, but will respond by pointing out that Vista experienced some pretty serious growth from season to season as well. And, as the previous poster pointed out, the culture change at Vista was far from complete going into the 2018 season.

Yes, but I was assured by members of the MFA forums that this was due to the extra time for prep and that those bands were "peaking" at GNats.
