  1. The depth at GNats does not compare to the depth in Texas
  2. Vista Ridge does something similar. They have a silver band and red band. The red band performs the competition show, with silver band members working props, etc. During the football season there are a few silver band performances with ALL band members playing and marching the drill together. This has been in place for three years now and is working well.
  3. Georgetown had a good year last year but did not follow it up well this year. I hope they bounce back.
  4. Wow, what a wonderful wall of words to read. I appreciate your insights. If you can somehow make it to Cedar Park tomorrow night, there is one more chance to see the show live!
  5. Dan - Thank you so much from this member of the Vista Ridge family. Very kind words there and I'm so happy the show had such an impact for you. I can confirm that the band will be performing the show at halftime of our game tomorrow against Round Rock at Gupton Stadium. This is only our 4th home game of the season and the complete show has not been performed for the home crowd yet.
  6. Cy-Fair was the district I immediately thought about when reading the comments about Houston area schools struggling to compete. Their demographics are similar to Leander ISD. I am astounded at the private lessons policy. That seems like a big indicator of where the district's head is with regards to music education. I know that at Vista Ridge our directors go out of their way to heap praise on the middle school directors and private lessons instructors as being vital to the development of our students' musicianship. I recently stumbled across a YouTube video of one of the Cy schools from Area this year. I know the school to be in a pretty affluent area and I was kinda dumbfounded at how old school (and unimaginative, frankly) the drill was. The band has large numbers, so the participation and interest are there. It feels like an area where the kids are thirsty for more, but the administration is not letting it happen.
  7. Looking at the scores, you really gotta wonder about the judge that had Leander 10th in music. There was a big gap between Leander and Hebron, so it didn't affect placements, but 10th? Really? The good news is that's really the only goofy-looking outlier.
  8. I've watched video of it five times now. It was my favorite moment of the entire extended weekend.
  9. Nope. First, realignment doesn't happen between now and then. Second, Cedar Park is not going to grow big enough to be 6A. Probably ever.
  10. I would love to see those videos.
  11. Why does UIL line up right to left? It's just wrong.
  12. The Woodlands got 12th AND 26th? Impressive.
  13. I miss the old script where they included the name of the city where the school is located at the top of the intro.
  14. Is there no 8 min clock today?
  15. Prelims results ordinals... LISD North: 1+5+9=15 LISD South: 2+3+8=13
  16. The two LISD's make up half the field
  17. $200 fine? That means you can't buy lunch at the Alamodome.
  18. There's no hangry like marching band hangry.
  19. I think that was a pretty good run for Vista.
  20. Yep, it was close, but they made it.
  21. And Alexander was fantastic.
  22. You are more charitable than I, sir. I'm turning into a grumpy old man with low tolerance for selfishness. C'est la vie. I'll just do my part to show these f'ers how to properly support these amazing kids.
