Y’all… not to be alarmist but there is no way someone big (or several someones) does not get left out of finals. Looking at the list:

-Vandegrift

-Leander

-Cedar Park

-Rouse

-Vista Ridge

-Pearland

-TWHS

-Hebron

-Flower Mound

-Marcus

-Keller

-LD Bell

-Coppell

-Round Rock

-Bridgeland

-Cy-Fair

-Cedar Ridge

-Westwood

-Dripping Springs

-Wakeland

-Westlake

-Reagan

-CTJ

-Bowie

-Forney

-Hendrickson

-Southlake Carroll

That’s 27 groups… thirteen will not make finals- I know San Antonio is often the most competitive contest, but this is a new level of stacked

Bridgeland is not going to BOASA

Dang… losing Bridgeland and Wakeland from last year is such a bummer! Those were both such treats in finals.

We can thank having state happen every year now for this. BOA San Antonio is not going to be the same as it once was as long as state is every year. Bands can’t miss that much school, much less afford to travel twice to San Antonio in a week.

I don't understand the logic of having state every year. It's so difficult for the bands that compete in both, diminishes the excitement for state as it is twice as often, and forces many groups from participating in BOA SA. Besides, BOA is the full performance for 99% of these groups as they can use their full electronics and props.

I believe the logic is that UIL was losing ground to BOA for a lot of the best bands in the state and needed to curb that. Knowing that most districts will force schools to prioritize UIL over BOA, they made the move to go every year.

It is also easier for many schools to participate in Area and State since the district will often cover some or all of those costs versus the booster program having to do so. The State format also allows more programs to get recognized for a level of success.
