Great performance from Royse City to open up our final round of SA! Really smart transitioning choices between equipment mid-way through, soloist were WOW! Super expressive body language, very big and powerful flag work, just a great show all around, amazing job RC! HELLO Richardson! First time viewing and all I've got to say is WOW! Near flawless run, and this show has SO many exposed solo moments they absolutely killed! Really fun and cute show concept that they bring out and "complicate" so it's not super simple. Tons of talent in this group, great job Richardson! Wonderful job from Louis.D.Brandies! Some dirt but otherwise fairly clean, really great expression of the theme throughout, and my goodness that last saber toss is a really risky choice lol, if that rifle goes anywhere but straight up and right back down, someone's getting hit in the head, my heart was racing when I saw they were actually having her do it lol, but really solid show, needs a tad bit of polishing but a great run from Brandies! -

HELLO YUKON!!! Call me crazy but that could be contesting Hebron for number one (I'm almost 100% wrong about this lol), but WOW they were incredible!! Such an inspiring show that they convey so well, from the props to the emotional power these girls have! Super demanding show they make look like light work, I mean wow! These SA groups have been putting on quiet the show today, and I know tomorrow is going to be so crazy, but I mean wow Yukon, amazing performance! Lovely showing from The Colony! Much cleaner than the Dallas regional, another very emotionally powerful show conveyed so well. Really love the flag work in this show, very big and bright, resembling the ocean in this sailor show, and some very exposed flag writing they killed, great job TC! Also looks like Boswell is no longer in attendance as we are in break going into round 4 of SA -

Great performance from Wylie! Much like Azle, some very uncharacteristic drops, definitely have a much better run in them tomorrow but still a fantastic showing! Really love the theme and they really bring it out with some great character development, love the big umbrellas, adds so much GE, great job Wylie! Way to go Hebron!! A couple unfortunate drops throughout, a cleaner run tomorrow hopefully but wow they are stunning! This show is just so incredibly designed, giving the performers tons of moments to show off and that's exactly what they do, so so good, amazing job Hebron! Some great stuff from Mckinney Boyd! Really loved the new ending, helps really put a bow on the show and adds so much GE. So much cleaner since seeing them at Dallas, super demanding show they performing so well, great job MB! -

Some really great stuff from Bridgeland! I was somewhat distracted during the performance, but what I saw was magical! I love how they convey their emotions so strong, really helps add to this beautiful story. The gold glitter was a nice affect, and they are super good! Flag work was definitely the highlight, super big and expressive, amazing job Bridgeland! SLC! What a fun show! Really love the color of the uniforms against the tarp, and they are super talented! Very exposed solo moments they nailed, really great flag work as well. Don't really understand the theme, but it kind of comes together at the end, but regardless a super fun show, amazing job SLC! I'll be gone for a little but should be back around the time Wylie is on -

Coppell doing amazing like they have been all season! I'm so happy this group is having such a successful season after last year, I absolutely loved the show, but Ik they didn't score like they wanted to, but this season has been such a turnaround. Just so much to love about this show, oh and they're pretty good btw. Will be interesting to see where they land with many other groups having much better runs but they were also just as incredible as everyone else has been, amazing job Coppell! Great run from Mckinney! First time seeing them this season and I'm pretty impressed. It does feel a times a tad bit to basic, and that they could be performing more difficult content, but they absolutely nailed what they're working with! Some pretty hard flag work/solo moments, GE was very high, just a very fun show all around, has a ton of potential to do well in Dayton, great job Mckinney! Wonderful job Little Elm! Such an emotional story the tell so well. Really love the flag work in this show, so expressive and it really adds nice touches to the theme. A tad bit amount of dirt throughout but still a very solid run, amazing job Little Elm! -

I really hope they delayed start doesn't hurt them, because Clear Brook THREW DOWN! They might be closer to Marcus than I expected, because that was one heck of a run! Very dark and mysterious theme, which they portray so well throughout, not to mention the girls are SUPER talented! So many individual moments they killed, flag work was lovely, I mean wow, amazing job CB! Timber Creek has improved SO much since last seeing them! I think the biggest thing that's gonna be holding them back is GE, because IMO the music doesn't really fit with the theme. I'd imagine they type of audio Marcus is using, but it's pop, which isn't bad, I just don't see that in a rock-paper-scissors show. However, the show is very demanding, and they killed it, especially equipment wise, very on point, amazing job TC! Friendswood!! You could tell they weren't happy with their finals run from Austin ,because that was Leaps and Bounds better, I mean holy cow! The rifle work in this show is insane, but they make it look like it's nothing! Love this show a ton, can't wait for a second watch, amazing job F-Wood! -

Incredible performance from Cy-Fair to open up SO! Really fun colors, but even more so they amazing talent from this group. The show overtime grows in demand, which is something I find appealing, how the show gets progressively harder. Great stuff all around, definitely made a case to have a second performance, great job Cy-Fair! Amazing performance from Jordan! Very lively show, love the color scene, and the guard was just fantastic. Small amounts of dirt but overall, a very solid run. If anything is lacking from my perspective it's the storytelling, but the show is very demanding, and they performed at a very high level, amazing job Jordon! Marcus doing what they do best, being awesome at everything they do! A near flawless run, but I mean they are just unbelievably good, such a powerful show, and they do everything with ease, one of my favorites from this year, simply majestic, wow wow wow, incredible job Marcus! Also I missed most of JB but what I saw was great, they'll be performing again -

Some great stuff from Wylie East! Some dirt here and there, but for the most part was very clean! Really challenging body work that they made look so easy, not the hardest show equipment wise, but the nailed what they're working with, and they were zooming the second, very fast tempo change, but they did great and had a very strong finish! MESA RIDGE! What a performance from CO guard that I'm so happy came to Texas for the weekend. The show is amazing, I feel like I'm watching a mini theater production. They move SO well, some extremely difficult rifle/saber work in the first half, and some incredible flag work in the second half. They convey the story so well, really smart design choice to use the big house props to get the flags to the members, I mean wow, what an amazing performance! Coppell A......FLAWLESS! I don't have much to say other than they've blown my mind away..again! They are cooking over at Coppell this year, I mean wow this group is beyond talented, can't wait to see them again tomorrow, simply magical! -

Much improvement from Bell since Dallas. Rough start but they pulled it together very fast, and the second half was nearly flawless. Really love how much they give emotionally, some great flag work, and their soloist did amazing. Could be a tad bit more colorful, but they performed like they wanted a second performance, great job Bell! For a 14-person guard, PCPS was incredible! Really beautiful flag work throughout, great use of the different colors to really express the theme, and their soloist were just fantastic! Really effective design choices, just a great show all around from out 2nd OK guard! Solid run from Klein Oak! Some dirt in the more exposed moments, but their group work was fantastic. Really expressive flag work, and their uniforms work so well against the colors scheme of the tarp, some really challenging saber work they killed, really good overall! -

Garland was amazing! Some dirt in the first half with the rifle quartet, but their flag work was on the level of some world class groups, their timing and coronation was insane, and a cleaner run tomorrow will do them good, but dang they're pretty good, really impressive work! Hello Union! Our first out-of-state program just laid it down! Equipment work was very demanding, and they executed the show so well! Always so much going on all the time, really loved the props/uniforms, some very exposed solo moments they nailed, great stuff Union! -

Forney was quite impressive. A couple big drops, but the demand on the equipment side is very high, and they are performing very well. Not a super easy show to read, but there were some really challenging tosses they killed! Lovely performance from McNeil! Really expressive body work, and their soloist are great. They do a very good job at bringing out the theme, and their big flag work was so clean! Azle-WOW! Such a mesmerizing show, talent is very high in this group. A decent number of uncharacteristic drops, definitely have a cleaner run in them tomorrow, but they are going to be making some noise at Dayton. GE is so high, and they just move so smoothly, just wow Azle, so freaking good! -

Good morning everyone! We are here via Flo at the Denton Southwest power regional. As mentioned, I probably won’t be doing huge breakdowns, maybe for finals but will def be giving commentary. Good luck to all the guards competing this weekend, excited to see some more polished shows! -
I’ll do my best to describe the process. So, there are 7 judges total, individual music/marching, ensemble music/marching, 2 music GE and 1 visual GE. Each judge gives each band a score out of 20, an example being that the visual GE judge gave band A a 17.25. Then, for music as a whole, they take the music individual/ensemble judges, and average the score out of 20, that’s the groups overall music score. The same process happens for visual, take the two same judges, and averages the score out of 20. For GE, the average is out of 60. They take the 2 music GE judges, both giving scores out of 20, add the two together, that’s a bands total music GE score, then they add this visual score, and it will be some number between 0-60, as each GE judge can give a max of 20 points, so a total ge score could be 55.8. Getting a 16.5 like you mentioned is just either a score given me a judge in their specific category they are judging, or can be a total music/visual caption average score. And the final score is of course your average music score+average visual score+GE score, which will be any number between 0-100, such as an 88.75. Hope this helps! im also adding a breakdown of one of last years Boa comps from Hornrank so you can physically see how the scores work: https://www.hornrank.com/2023/09/austin-prelims-sept-23-2023.html?m=1

Ik Hebron has been on top all season, but watching Azle and Hebron "battle" all season long has been so fun, wonder if Azle will be able to close the gap this season, would be some huge momentum for the rest of the season, both are sooo good this season -

Super excited for Denton, currently planning on watching both days, might do to super in-depth reviews as we’ve seen a pretty good amount of the guards but will definitely provide some updates. Very excited to see the out-of-state programs, with four Oklahoma and one Colorado guard coming down for the weekend -

Just say Avon with a 93...... Yeah It's gotta be just a state scoring system or something, because there is no way, even IMO Carmel being that for ahead doesn't make any sense to me. Avon obviously has the strongest show this season, but I'd imagine things will be much closer after today's run, definitely by Dayton, TW'S show is just as good as the top Indiana guards with Avon being the exception -

The Woodlands-the light you cannot see: What an opening! Rifle work in the start was SOOO Much cleaner, OMG they are flinging rifles left and right, I mean wow this is some Really hard stuff they nailed! Love the flag trio through it all which builds overtime, adds some color to this dark scene. You can tell they weren't happy with yesterday's run, because today was MUCH cleaner, just so much going on all the time, rifle work is UNBELIVABLY clean today, WOW! Great usage of the barrel-shaped props, staging design is so smart in setting up the performers for some really challenging stuff they make looks so easy. Can't stress enough how much cleaner this run was, like night and day, big flag moment at the end is breathtaking. They are gonna do some really big damage Dayton, WOW WOW WOW Woodlands!!! -

Friendswood-song for you: THAT OPENING IS SO COOL! Love how they all start spread across the tarp and then come together to match bodywork on the stage-like prop. Unfortunately, not the run they were hoping for. Some pretty exposed drop in the first half rifle section, but they got it together and ended on a high note with some great big flag work that was very in-time, loved the black/white against the blue stage, and how the prop spreads out as the members move in that direction, great job Friendswood! Westlake-this truth: WOW WOW WOW! Insane performance!!! Super smart designed opening with the members coming out from the props and from then on out it's just insane amounts of them showing of their talent. Tons of super exposed solos/duets that they killed, super expressive flag work, and the colors work so well. Another performance that's blown me away, as well as the crowd. The amount of demand from each performer requires so much, yet they make it look so easy, and that run was so clean, amazing job Westlake! Coppell-In Fantasia: THAT WAS INCREDIBLE!!! Flag duet killed it, and using the big crystal prop to change colors when they bring out the flag is such a smart design choice. Rifle work is WOW! So much movement going along with the tosses that they just nail, really smart color selections for the second wave of flag work. Tons of effect created by each performer, and they just know how to add GE to each thing they do, fantastic performance from Coppell to finish out our SO groups! -

Ronald Reagan-sweet of the matriarch: Saber soloist, you are SO good! Lovley dance chero and saber work surrounding the soloists as they move into some expressive flag work, the light grey pops so well against the purple uniforms and gold/black tarp. Great usage of the big gold circle prop to set up some solos/duets which the rocked! Again, massive improvement from Dallas, rifle work midway through was very clean, just a great sense of presence in this group, and the big brass audio really amplifies the performance, lovely bright orange flag work to close the show, wonderful job Reagan! James Bowie-pawn: Super cool opening with some of the members hiding in big silk costumes as they slowly unveil themselves to move into a big and bright gold flag moment which they nailed! Tempo picks up and we move into some mixed flag/saber work, the black/white flags look so good against the orange uniforms, and they are so in time, YES rifle soloist! We slow things back down with some really impressive dance-work and then pickup the pace again. Great usage of the props to stage some difficult rifle solos, Clean is the name of the game with this group, love this show a lot, amazing job JB! Earl Warren-life is like a dandelion: Unreal performance! Talent is soaring through this program, and minus one drop the run was flawless. I mean they crease such a big emotional presence, and it's there throughout the entire show. Great staging to set up their soloists, so much variety in movement/equipment, I mean WOW! Just sat back for this one, and I'm blown away, fantastic job EW! -

CTJ-save me: Great dance-work, amazing job rifle soloist, killed it! Great transition into a nice rifle duet with some flag work encircling the two as we move into some mixed flag/saber work. Was worried at first we they would lack in colored flags but was proven wrong fast with the bright purple flags that look great against the black uniforms. I will admit the theme is a little hard to follow, but the team is exceptionally good, great performance from CTJ to get SO started! Cedar Ridge- oh what a world: OH.MY.GOSH! Cedar Ridge just blew the roof off the school. I don't know why they are scoring so low, because that is show is SOO good! Such great usage of the props as entryways for the members, and the mirrored movement between the silk props just add so much cool effect. So much demand and the execution is just crazy, and super clean, amazing job CR! Dawson-petrified: My goodness Dawson, that was incredible! Again, props to the male soloist who stays still nearly the whole show, not easy to do. Great dance duet in the opening, love the hoodies and how the use them to create a dark effect to the scene. Many tempo changes throughout, allowing for some upbeat saber/rifle work which they nailed, and slower more expressive and colorful flag work. A tad bit of dirt in the start but was clean the rest of the performance, amazing job Dawson! -

Seven Lakes-shine: Boy do the girls shine, WHAT a performance! Great flag soloist with some very challenging chero that they nailed, as we move into some big and super expressive flag work, tosses were on point. Great staging for the rifle group split between the continuous flag work, love how each performer has a different colored uniform, my goodness the flag work in this show is unbelievable, so well-coordinated, just an outstanding performance from 7L! Azle-bridges: Wow wow WOW Azle!!! Just sat back and enjoyed that performance, unbelievably clean! The emotion they express is just wild, GE is off the charts, I'm just blown away by what they are able to do. No drops, everything was together, such a magical performance, big things in store for this group, fantastic job Azle! Hebron-If I only: The amount of growth they've had since last year is insane. Amazing work all around, super smart design that allows each performer to show off their talent. Love the color scene, and they do such an amazing job at conveying the story, and their flag work was SOO good, some nervous at the start but they got it together. The flame-fire flags pop so well with the black uniforms, just such an expressive show and crowd favorite, amazing work Hebron! Pearland-once up a blue moon: Oh Pearland, yall have my heart. They will be running SA this season, and it's not close. Their passion helps bring SO much emotion to the scene, and being beyond clean helps a ton. Super smart design and staging choices to use the moon props to set up their incredible soloists to be as bright and obvious as possible, and their flag work is just unbelievable, could watch them over and over again, and I'm super excited to see how they do the rest of the season, INCREDIBLE job Pearland!! -

Veterans Memorial-before the curtain: SO happy the made finals because I LOVE this show! Another power outage, please fix this lol, however they were back on before they started. Great Flag Trio as they move into full and super expressive flag work, YES rifle soloist! Using the clothe racks as a way to hide a get new equipment ready to use is so effective in not making the change distracting, and there is always either a difficult rifle passage or some beautiful flag work going on the gasp your attention from the changes, uniform change was so cool, just love everything about this show, and they are CLEAN, wonderful job VM! Cypress Woods-my day will come: Really fun and effective dance-work to start of the show and move into some small group rifle work which they nailed! Really smart staging of the performers, having some rifle work up front on the props and really big and expressive flag work going on behind, giving you plenty to enjoy. Love the big yellow flags against the black uniforms, adds so much needed color and helps everything stand out more. SO much cleaner than yesterday, we could definitely see them move up place and score wise, though VM was also really clean, and they were neck-and-neck yesterday, will be fun to see how things shake out, but either way really strong performance from Cy-Woods, another show I dig! Cedar Park-The ever-expanding void and all its beauty: Super smart opening with the performers circling up around the void on the tarp as to represent it, great job saber soloists! Some challenging rifle work going with their dancer doing some very impressive bodywork, super smart design choice to always have a soloist representing the void with a ton of other stuff going on simultaneously, adds so much GE and depth to the story. Big flag work was WOW, they are not messing around this season, super strong show and they are just performing it to it's max, amazing job CP!
