UIL 4A Area B 2024
Tubalord11 replied to Dave609's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I think Aubrey has a super strong shot at finals if not state but other than that I agree with your list, really hoping to see Krum at state 🙏 -
Yeah, I do agree with you. I think 5th or 6th is more realistic for them, especially like you said how Leander is really starting to come together and did place ahead of Rouse and CP by some of the judges and think them and Aledo will be battling in out for the last two spots in the top half. I do also think Leader is got a super strong shot at medaling this year, though ofc Wakeland is as good as ever. I personally think CP and Rouse have 1 and 2 locked down, but it could be closer than ever between 3rd and 6th. I'm really rooting for Argyle to make finals as well so they can have some strong momentum going into GN's!

OH, MY LORD!!! Vandy better watch out because Hebron is coming in HOT!! We'll see how they two compare before at state at SA but I fully expect Hebron to win music there and definitely top 3 at state, if not first, but my goodness they are sounds SO CLEAN! I think because it's a "Little Easier (still very challenging!!), then 22 and 23, they really are able to have a cleaner presence overall which I think will do them good in the long run, but gosh I love this show so much, WOW!!

Hello! So yes, they do tend to do this for a lot of comps. One of the main reasons for this is because it almost forces the bands to have two good or an even better run in finals compared to prelims. A lot of programs will between the two rounds listen to the judge's tapes, so they know specific things that could be better in finals. However, switching some or all of the judges, who are trained in all of the specific captions, do this so it's a completely different contest, in a sense, from prelims to finals. If let's say band X had an obvious mistake in a brass feature and the brass judge in prelims noticed it, it wouldn't be fair for that same judge to have another view on a cleaner run of the feature in finals, because they may feel obligated to give band X a higher brass score simply because it was cleaner that it was in prelims, which is not the goal. The goal is for the bands to be rewarded or penalized for how they did in the one specific run, so having the judges switch eliminates almost any reference for the judges to compare a bands prelims run to their finals run. That's why it's common, especially at Area, for bands to jump in placements from prelims to finals, because different judges catch things in finals, both good or bad, that the other judges for that caption didn't catch in prelims. Hope this helps

Kind of, not a 100% sure. I don’t know what the specific sheets look like, just an general basis of how the sub-captions work..ish, but you do get rewarded, at least id imagine so, content points if it’s cleaner bc then its better presented? Its a lot more then just difficulty though, that I do know.

Because they have a really good show?? No need to be rude. -
Don’t worry, I got you! So it’s the current 7 state judge system for 5A and 6A state contest. There’s the exact 7 judges there as used in this comp in terms of the captions (music ensemble, brass, woodwinds and percussion, visual individual, ensemble, and content and design(which is UIL Ge)). Each have sub captions which are the content and achievement, with content being variety in difficulty, dynamics, style, all that stuff musically and visually how challenging, variety in body work/visuals, ect. And then of course Achievement is how well was the the captions executed. And then content and design is as said UIL GE. Hope this helps!!

Certain judges just have different things that they see or hear at different times that another might have that caused a higher or lower placement, and just different opinions/views on things, just how it works. -

You do have to keep in mind that 2 of the music judges switch to visual from prelims to finals and vice versa. So, except for one judge, it’s a completely different and new contest. This is done so that the bands truly get a second chance, so having a better run will be rewarded in finals. -
I'll bite- 1. Cedar Park 2. Rouse 3. Wakeland 4. Leander 5. Lonestar 6. Aledo 7. Hendrickson 8. Friendswood 9. Argyle 10. Roma Last two (by area): Mckinney North, Pieper, Midlothian, Burleson Centennial, Colleyville Heritage I have Argyle for a couple reasons. One, I think they are going to use the momentum of making state and shock us. They've got a great performance time, and an amazing show which if they clean and really get together, I think will make finals. I think Aledo, Leander and Lonestar are interchangeable, will just come down to the day of. I haven't seen Roma's show yet, but it sounds like they are having another stellar season, and don't have to early of a time. Really sucks Midlothian has to go on super early as I'd love to see them make finals after the season they're having. Don't know how much I'll be able to watch this year, not a ton of prelims since I have the exhibition performance but might just skip my classes if I have nothing big those days to watch finals. Good luck to everyone in preparation, hopefully able to watch some of ya'll before the exhibition!

Not much to say about this area other than it's an absolute bloodbath. The depth here is just insane, and so many of these programs are worthy of state. My final guess for this one. So many surprises could happen here, especially who gets that last spot, but here's my final take: 1st. Flowermound 2nd. Hebron 3rd. Marcus 4th. Wylie/Prosper 5th. Prosper/Wylie 6th. Braswell 7th. Mckinney 8th. Rock Hill 9th Wyle East 10th. Mckinney Boyd 6th-10th could honestly be in any order, but best of luck to everyone competing here, finals is going to be such an amazing show!! -

Uil 6A Area D Contest

Final predictions for this bloodbath of an area: 1st. Ronald Reagan 2nd. Cedar Ridge 3rd. Round Rock 4th. James Bowie/Dripping Springs/Mcneil/CTJ 5th. DS/CTJ/JB/McNeil 6th. CTJ/JB/McNeil/DS 7th. Mcneil/CTJ/DS/JB 8th. Westwood/MG Johnson 9th. MG Johnson/Westwood 10th. Winston Churchill I honestly think this is the hardest Area to predict how it's going to go. TBH, all 10 of these programs are state worthy, and other than Reagan in first, I think 2nd-5th is up for grabs. So many of these programs are having their best seasons ever, with those going to state coming down to who has the stronger runs come finals. Best of luck to all these programs, gonna be a heck of a battle for state! -

Gosh this area is just insane. Really wish we had 5 going to state, because someone unfortunately is going to get left out. Rockwall had a great showing last night a D-Ville, but at this point, its just gonna come down to finals. Not really anything has changed from last time, but here's my finals predictions: 1st. Waxahachie 2nd. Forney 3rd. Sachse/Rockwall/Duncanville 4th. Rockwall/Sachse/D-ville 5th. Duncanville/Sachse/Rockwall 6th. JJ Pearce 7th. North Forney 8th. Berkner 9th. Lake Highlands 10th. Richardson Good luck to everyone competing here next weekend! -

Well, everyone, time to shift our focus to 6A Area!! This area is just insane this year, so many state worthy finals competing for only 4 spots. High quality performances is the name of the game, and it will come down to every last detail. It does suck that it looks like Saturday is gonna have some rain, but hopefully it goes away or isn't to major. Anyways, here's my final predictions for this area: 1. Coppell 2nd. Timber Creek/Keller 3rd. Keller/Timber Creek 4th. Southlake Carroll 5th. LD Bell 6th. Keller Central/Haltom 7th. Haltom/KC 8th. James Martin 9th. Lake Ridge 10th. Boswell/Trinity I do think Bell has state potential, but their show isn't as strong as last years, and the top 4 have already consistently placed ahead of them. The last 3 spots could also shift around a little, but yeah, good luck to everyone competing here, hope everyone has a week of productive rehearsal (regardless of the weather for this week lol)!! -

Congratulations to Aledo, Midlothian, CH, BC and Richland on advancing to state!! Not any shockers these are the 5 going, and honestly not super shocked to see Midlothian place second. They've been super strong all season long, and with a good run and time at state, I don't think finals is out of the question for them. Obviously, just because they were over BC, CH and Richland here doesn't guarantee they will be at state, but they've got some strong momentum to ride off of. Birdville in 10th is definitely I bit of a shocker, but this area is extremely talented. Congratulations to everyone who's season is now over, go get some rest, and GL to the 5 going to state!!
