  1. I am going to have to agree with you! Looks like some dark carnival theme of some sort...
  2. Choral Works was one of my favorites as well! That was a fun show. I always enjoy Belton as well. Looking forward to seeing what they bring to BOA Austin if they’re coming to that one!
  3. Gosh RudeDog. That’s just...RUDE! Come on...just one little hint?
  4. I didn't think so or you would certainly have told us. Is this person a possible troll or simply terribly misinformed? They only just created an account today.
  5. This is definitely news. The Woodlands are returning to Grand Nats this November, even though it's a State year and they just went last fall?
  6. Ha, I know what you're saying! My 27 year old daughter played softball from elementary age thru her first 2 years of college and I used to think her Select team fees were awful. Then I went to the freshman parent orientation meeting for band and was told that fees and uniform bits and pieces would run around $500 a year. On top of that, the kids were expected to do private lessons weekly at a cost of $80 to $100 per month. Needless to say, it was quite the shock to this newbie band parent in 2013. Then they told us a few years later that we would be going to Grand Nats and that it would cost roughly $1300 per kid. By that time I was like, oh well, what's another grand in band fees? LET'S GO TO LUCAS OIL! Heh. And so it goes. Hey, band is life baby!
  7. I definitely was pumped to see no Texas bands going this fall if only to pump things up for a big resurgence in 2019. I don't have 100% confirmation that Leander is going back next year, but several parents told me last fall that they planned on it, and I definitely saw a Grand Nats meeting on the Leander calendar this month. I'm no longer in the loop as much since my kiddo graduated in '17, but there's definitely reason to believe it's going to happen.
  8. I'm not sure why I was thinking Prosper made finals last year at Indy. Senior Moment I guess! Now I'm going to go back and read the 2017 recaps on Prosper. I do remember their show, however, and I do remember liking it a lot.
  9. Okay I am going to say something that may be a bit unpopular but I’m actually disappointed to hear that there is now a Texas band going to GN this fall. For several reasons. Mostly I’m disappointed because I was excited to see some bands make finals that wouldn’t otherwise due to the presence of big Texas bands. Bands like O’Fallon. I was happy to see us out of the way for once, and other states given that rare chance to really shine. Of course there is the chance that Prosper won’t make finals, but it’s unlikely. I’m sure this announcement of a big Texas band coming up after we had all assumed none would has put a damper on the spirit of some other bands who had felt hopeful for perhaps the first time. The other reason I am disappointed, and it’s totally a selfish one, but I was super excited to see us skip out on a year, and then come back in 2019 with a vengence. “The Texans are coming, the Texans are coming!” You know...something very Paul Revere-ish and all.
  10. Yeah, that’s some heavy duty fund raising! In a short amount of time!!
  11. Yes someone usually covers for us as well. I believe that it was actually some parents who played instruments filling in for Leander that time. Which could help explain why the football parents begged us not to do that to them again.
  12. That's one way to put it.
  13. I hope this gets worked out for the Woodlands to be able to compete in Finals. That would truly be a real shame if these kids had to miss out on one of the top competitions of the season. BOA *is* our chance to shine. Not football games where no one pays attention and everyone is trying to talk loudly in order to be heard over the band! On the other hand, I remember when the Leander band missed a football game for BOA San Antonio I believe, and when we were back in the stands the following week, several football parents sitting around us said to us, semi jokingly of course, "don't ever do that again!" Evidently it was quite boring without the band!
  14. Oh my goodness, that's ridiculous! Football is just the activity that happens before and after the halftime show. We band folks know what's REALLY important! Seriously though, that blows.
  15. Great and interesting info, thank you for compiling it! I love that there are other band parents who love the activity as much as I do! #bandnerdsunite
  16. I remember hearing it in Houston as well last fall.
  17. great....that means they get even more practice time than all of the other Texas bands. I wish UIL would change some of their rules about marching band. I don't understand why they can't begin learning drill until August 1st. And now, with so many schools starting earlier and losing valuable marching time, it's even more challenging to get the show learned in a timely manner.
  18. Oh, just a maybe, eh? Yeah, me too.
  19. Come back, Clarinot! This place still needs you!
  20. Ok, I don’t know how or why I just saw this thread, but it cracked me up. Dang Russians! This must be part of that whole collusion effort. They started with trying to infiltrate marching band forums, and then quickly moved on to trying (allegedly) to take over our political system.
  21. Indeed it does! I wonder if Vandegrift will be next.
  22. I also just found out that one of Leander’s color guard guys, Bryan, got a contract with Carolina Crown! I’m so excited for him!
  23. I’ve also already ordered tickets to see the first night of DCI at my Cedar Park Cinemark in June with my daughter. I’ve got the recliners reserved and I can already smell the popcorn!
