Evidently quite a few bands have changed directors this year. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
-
As information becomes public knowledge, can we begin listing who all is losing their directors and/or gaining new directors for the fall? My head is spinning with all of the proposed changes, some of which may or may not be public knowledge yet. I would just like to start a thread where we can talk about each of the changes happening this year as they come up. First of all, I'm so curious how Marcus will do without Amanda Drinkwater at the helm. Was she a major marching influence, or did she leave that to her assistants and focus more on the concert side of things? Will this hurt Marcus or not affect them at all? I guess we will have to wait and see. And there are others as well. All I know for sure is that Leander doesn't seem to be losing or gaining anyone this fall. Maybe...

BOA St Louis 2018

I guess I didn't realize Weiss had been around long enough to be 5A. I can't believe Tom Glenn is already at the 5A level now. Geez, that happened fast!! Okay Leander, you can stop growing now. -
I'm thinking Marcus, Hendrickson, Cedar Park...but who knows!

Are you sure they're 5A now? -
BOA Austin 2018

I think Cedar Park is just taking advantage of the fact that it is not a State year for them. Vista and Leander seem to be posed more for focusing on state and less on BOA this year, but I could be wrong about that. Vandy may be trying to ride the wave of their success last year and hoping to medal at every BOA they enter and at UIL as well. And I believe that they can do just that! -
I think you could be right! Hendrickson? Marcus? We'll see!

Go Weiss! They have moved up to 4A this year with the addition of a Senior class (or is it just a Junior class this year?). I'm anxious to see how well they can do away from Texas! Edit: Maybe I'm thinking of Tom Glenn. I know they're in similar situations. I would like to see Tom Glenn go out of Texas and see what they can do. -
Relevance of BOA Grand Nationals

And then we take over in 2019. -
Exactly what I had hoped for as well! This will be a fantastic opportunity for some of these bands who don’t usually get a shot at finals to come out and really show off. Good stuff!

Vista Ridge has announced their show. Lost and Found. There will be some great music in this one! Edited to try and get the link to actually show up. Just cut and paste I guess. Not sure why this particular link is giving me trouble when Leander's didn't. -
YES!! Possibly the two most favorite band moms I've met to date. They were hanging out in the shade between semis and finals just outside the gate at BOA Austin last year, and so I forced myself into their little group so I could sit in the shade as well. They had the same snarky sense of humor that I have, so an instant bond was formed. I'm looking forward to seeing them again this fall!

does the UIL stream cover region and area contests or does it just cover those 2 days of state semis and finals? -

Okay, I just signed up for a monthly donation to support my friends at TX Bands! I challenge you mommas and daddies and former band nerds to give a little bit (or a lot!) to this great community. -
6A UIL Area 2018
LeanderMomma replied to Dog885's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Well there ain't much chance of my NOT being there to support Leander, regardless. But if someone wants to build that sports bar (or perhaps we could call it a band bar?), and if one of the streaming services wants to sign on for showing all of the UIL area competitions that day, well COUNT ME IN! -
I'm a Tennessee girl who's been blessed to live in Texas 21 years now. I like that bumper sticker that says, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!" Wisconsin is very nice. Especially in the summer when it's a zillion degrees down here.

Hahahaha!!!! That cracked me up for some bizarre reason. The Madison nickname is Cody, who is in the James Madison HS band in San Antonio. As for BrewersGrill...I have no idea. I used to have family in Janesville, WI. Visited there many times as a child.

Ohhh, are they the CTJ moms I befriended last year??!! Gina and Lisa??

6A UIL Area 2018
LeanderMomma replied to Dog885's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
What hurts the most is that every one of these hotly contested areas will determine their state contenders on the same day. And there's no Flo Marching to broadcast any of it. While I'm sweating it out watching Leander ISD and it's competitors battle it out for a spot at state, there will be so many other areas I'd also like to be watching. What we need is a big ole sports bar with TV screens all around, and something like Flo Marching broadcasting the whole thing that day. -
Yes, it's a fantastic school. I grew up with Harding in my blood, having attended Harding Academy in Memphis for 12 years (which I believe is one of the largest, if not THE largest, private schools in the country). I got a superb education and was blessed to be in a pretty awesome HS band for 5 years. Fantastic memories for me, ALL of my Harding years.
