I disagree as well. People say that every season a band slips a little. It doesn't automatically mean a band is in a slump!

Oh, I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only alumni band fan! My daughter and I had such a great time last year going to Austin, DFW, Houston and San Antonio. It was even more fun with her sitting next to me than when I was watching her on the field, though nothing can compare to watching her perform at Grand Nats in 2016. That was the trip and the experience of a lifetime! We do the hotel thing, too. Or stay with friends. I'm not trying to drive back at midnight after sitting in a football stadium for 16 hours! We have similar plans for BOA SA this fall. Last year we stayed in San Marcos with my middle daughter in her apartment, but driving back and forth so late at night was a bit tedious. I also have rheumatoid arthritis and I get EXHAUSTED after those long days in the Alamodome so we are going to get a hotel right by the Alamodome (I think there is a La Quinta within walking distance) this year so I can go back and forth and rest. Then we can also enjoy the riverwalk too! BOA Waco is the only one I'm not sure about....we shall see. So excited to have all of these events to look forward to this fall! I love that Texas has so many opportunities within a few hours drive for us to enjoy marching band. We are blessed!

Hmmmm....that’s very interesting. You guys always seem to have all the insider info and juicy gossip! I’ll be anxious to see what happens in the LISD this summer/fall. I just hope Selaidan, Carrahur and Callaway stay put!

I think you guys are going to come out and KILL IT again this year. OTOH, BOA Austin is an entire week later than usual this year, so maybe more of the bands will have their entire show laid down by September 29th. Then again, schools are starting a week or two earlier up here in the ATX than we have in the past, which means we won't have that extra week of rehearsal in August that we usually get before school starts, so that could hold us back a bit. Yeah....CTJ takes it all again. I'm saying it now.

I think 2017 was a little bit of a "sleeper" year for Leander...kind of a "regroup and relax mode after Grand Nats" sort of year. I'm thinking we come back stronger than ever this fall. At least I hope so!

Fantastic analysis Landry! That definitely took some time and thought. I agree with you 100%. The entire competition was a feast for the eyes and the ears. Seeing and hearing it live definitely gives the entire experience more depth, as I saw in Denton last month, but watching it through our big ol tv and running the sound through our stereo was almost like being there. Almost... My favorite part was each time the Texas kids would sing out, “The stars at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas!” I was a little disappointed when they didn’t do that for Avon. They are adopted Texans now, after all. ❤️

Some of these Independent World guards are truly incredible and so powerfully moving. Many of the high school guards were as well. Does the rest of the world have a clue what they’re missing by not knowing about this activity? I don’t think they do...
