6A UIL Area 2018
LeanderMomma replied to Dog885's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Oh man, that hurts! How do you predict top 5 in that region/area?! That’ll be one to watch for sure. Especially if Duncanville rises to the level of their new drill designer and music arrangement team, and if Haltom, Prosper and Richland continue on their current upward trajectory. Dare I say that 6A state may actually be more exciting than BOA SA this fall! -
6A UIL Area 2018

Ah so I DIDNT just dream that Richland moved up to 6A! -
Oh that’s right, Richland will probably not be at BOA events. Bummer. I wish we could see more of them. Did they move up to 6A this year by chance? I was going to say Coppell as a surprise band but for some reason I got to thinking they often made finals. I think I am confusing some regional competitions with the super regional. This could be Hebron’s year to take San Antonio and 6A state. And GN next year perhaps? I can’t wait to see what Texas bands head to Indy in 2019. It could be a (not so) hostile takeover.

Leander did “Beneath the Surface” in 2013 and the music was extremely difficult. My band kid (marched 2013, 14, 15 & 16) said it was the hardest music she ever played. Of course she was a freshman that year which could be part of why she felt like it was so hard. Going from middle school to high school band in LISD was quite an adjustment for her!

It'd be awesome if it was Avon, Carmel, Broken Arrow, Tarpon Springs and 8 Texas bands in Finals. -

Just realized someone had already started a thread for this back in Feb or March and it's under Everything Music. MY BAD! -

I did some research a few months ago and posted this info but can't remember the exact year. It was like 2000 or 2001. I can't remember which thread I posted it in! EDIT: I found it in another Grand Nats thread begun last November. It was 2000 the last time no Texas bands were in attendance at Grand Nats. -

Could someone just put this arrangement of Danzon No. 2 on the field please? And put Gustavo Dudamel in a marching band uniform and let him conduct? OK, thanks. ❤️ -
2018 Show Announcements

Well, this certainly looks like it could be interesting! Leander presents—Polarity. With music from Metallica (“Battery”), Abel Korzeniowski (from Romeo and Juliet) and “Danzon No. 2” by Marquez. I ain’t gonna lie. I’M PUMPED! Oh, and the new uniforms? Yeah...they’re awesome. -
Leander's fall show announcement is tonight I believe. But the title never really tells us much about a show, do you think? I always crack up at how many parents turn out just for a show announcement (including myself!) when in fact, we are truly learning NOTHING about the show other than the theme. The title of the show could be, "A Trip to the Garbage Dump" and the kids and parents all lose their minds jumping up and down in glee once it's announced like we just KNOW it's going to be amazing!. I just find it so amusing!!

Marching is Sport?
LeanderMomma replied to Doctordien's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Ha, I remember a friend of mine had a child in both the Leander band and one on the Leander football team, and the football player told his mom that the band worked harder and practiced more than the football team. (Don't say it...I know Leander does NOT have the greatest football team, but still!). He said to his mom, "when we go to practice, the band is there practicing. When we leave practice, the band is still there. And we go back for our second practice in the afternoon, the band is there, and when we leave at night, the band is still there..." Band is NO JOKE! -

I disagree as well. People say that every season a band slips a little. It doesn't automatically mean a band is in a slump! -

Do you think Cedar Ridge will go back there soon? -
Oh, I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only alumni band fan! My daughter and I had such a great time last year going to Austin, DFW, Houston and San Antonio. It was even more fun with her sitting next to me than when I was watching her on the field, though nothing can compare to watching her perform at Grand Nats in 2016. That was the trip and the experience of a lifetime! We do the hotel thing, too. Or stay with friends. I'm not trying to drive back at midnight after sitting in a football stadium for 16 hours! We have similar plans for BOA SA this fall. Last year we stayed in San Marcos with my middle daughter in her apartment, but driving back and forth so late at night was a bit tedious. I also have rheumatoid arthritis and I get EXHAUSTED after those long days in the Alamodome so we are going to get a hotel right by the Alamodome (I think there is a La Quinta within walking distance) this year so I can go back and forth and rest. Then we can also enjoy the riverwalk too! BOA Waco is the only one I'm not sure about....we shall see. So excited to have all of these events to look forward to this fall! I love that Texas has so many opportunities within a few hours drive for us to enjoy marching band. We are blessed!
