I thought about you today as I drove a bus full of 5 year olds on a field trip. Not that you remind me of a 5 year old or anything! But anyway, our field trip route took us past Kelly Reeves stadium and the big digital sign was flashing something about BUSH'S TENDER ROLLS and it made me laugh and think of you. It also made me happy because BAND and BOA AUSTIN and Texas Marching Classic and kettle corn and CHICKEN!

That’s fantastic. Thanks for the info! I’ll definitely make a point of cutting my Spring break trip a little short so I can attend the Power Regional finals in Denton with my kiddo. And I hope to make it to TCGC in April at Hendrickson. I really want to see this live! -

Haha, well I didn't mean for it to sound creepy! I'm just trying to associate people with the bands they represent. Plus it's a little weird to meet people from the forum in real life, which I often do at marching competitions, and introduce ourselves by names like Duke of Bandom or Clarinet Queen instead of our RL names. -

Also, if you would like your info to remain private, you can PM me, and I will mark your info as PRIVATE. Why am I doing this? Because I am a people person and I would like to know more about those I have befriended in this awesome forum. -

So I've decided to do it anyway and I am leaving it up to each member whether or not they would like to be in the TxBands.com directory that I am creating. All I'm wanting is real life names to go with your forum identity (or you can remain anonymous), and which school you (or your child, sibling, etc) represent(ed). You can put the info here or you can private message me! You are also welcome to add anything else that you might want to include such as instrument played, years attended, color guard member, drum major, etc. Going first, my RL name is Cindy and my kiddo was in the Leander band playing flute in the 2013 - 2016 seasons. If no one responds, I'll know the idea was a dud. EDIT--IF YOU ARE UNDER 18, DO NOT SEND ME A PRIVATE MESSAGE WITH YOUR PERSONAL INFO. There, maybe that makes it a little less creepy sounding? If you are under 18 and are comfortable putting your RL name here publicly in the forum, that's fine. You can also just give us your school and leave your name anonymous if you wish. -
Grand Nationals 2018???
LeanderMomma replied to bingogooberman's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I had to go all the way back to 2000 to find the last time a TX band wasn't in finals. From what I can tell, there weren't any in semis either, so perhaps no Texas bands attended in 2000. http://www.musicforall.org/resources/fall-results/2000 -

2018 BOA San Antonio?
LeanderMomma replied to MadisonBandMan1's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Ahhh, you just answered the question I had on which school you're at! I'll be watching for you guys and any familiar props and/or flags this fall. -
Oh I definitely remember those pyramids from 2015. I absolutely loved it when the girls spun from them! That was my favorite Vista show in recent memory tho I also loved the 2013 & 14 shows featuring that awesome violin player. And I definitely noticed that the pyramids migrated into Lake Travis 2016 show.

I’ve definitely seen props make their way around the state and even the country. It’s kind of fun trying to remember where you have seen them before. Like those spinning giant S’s Hendrickson got from somewhere. Can’t remember now! The longer I watch, the more often I notice when props reappear. I wonder if designers and/or band directors see props and say, “hey I can design a show around those,” and then offer to buy them, or if they design the shows and look for props later. And how competitive is the prop selling market? Is there a category on Craigslist called Used Band Props For Sale? eBay? These are the dumb kinds of things I wonder about.

Well you’re right, it is exciting when a band excels using a recycled show. Rancho Bandero did well with our 4th Dimension music and similar drill and so did Leander, so that’s great. And I was definitely aware that this was a thing. It was just weird running across not one but two of our old shows in the same competition! And it felt strange somehow. But I understand reasoning behind it, and I don’t begrudge the other bands their use of the same musical arrangement. I’m just curious what others experiences were, and if they felt the same way. I guess my first feelings were very possessive ones!
-
Today I saw where two different Leander shows were performed by California bands last year. Rancho Bandero did our 2016 show. Ours was called The 4th Dimension and they called theirs The Grid. Then, as I was looking at one of the contests Rancho Bandero was in, I happened upon our 2015 Color Study show being performed by Poway High School. Obviously our drill was different from the CA schools, but there were also plenty of similarities. I knew that designers would sell their shows to more than one school, but it felt so weird to see and hear two of our shows being performed by other schools. Almost wrong, somehow.

Heh, y'all totally beat that 88 score! And maybe not CP, but you very effectively beat Round Rock. -
I’m still waiting to see Leander’s calendar for the fall.
