  1. Whoa, I just read that the 6A cut off is now 2190 and above. That means Leander is only 6A by 10 students!
  2. Concession. Is that a Freudian slip?
  3. I did in November for sure, but the December craziness has taken over my life.
  4. Well, to be fair, he did title the topic as WGI, which refers to Winter Guard International. This competition is exclusively for guard units, so one can assume that anyone competing in WGI is most likely from a large school. Not always the case, but most often is. And you're right. It's expensive, and it takes a hugely committed director and parents, and it's not for everybody. But man it's fun!!!
  5. I'm so glad to see these changes to the schedule for 6A! See y'all in about 9.5 months.
  6. I miss this place.
  7. Wait....there are RULES????!!!!
  8. *groan* I swear I don't spend 24/7 on this forum even tho it would appear that way! :/
  9. I hope they continue on their current path and become ONE of the first Leander ISD 6A bands to medal in state.
  10. Around here, they always start new schools with either freshmen only, or freshmen and sophomores only; will they do that there as well?
  11. Ok I just have to say, and I believe that this thread is the perfect place to put this, after seeing just how massive most of the 6A schools are that also have highly successful band programs, I am even more impressed with the success of the Leander ISD bands. Most of the Houston, San Antonio and Dallas area 6A schools are close to twice the size of Leander schools, which means that those schools theoretically should have twice the amount of talented musicians to pull band members from. Yet most of Leander ISD is able to compete on a fairly equal level with the big schools. That makes me even more proud of our district!!
  12. Whoa. Prosper is at 2969 and still 5A? They must have grown FAST!
  13. Yes they are!! Over 4400 at The Woodlands!! No wonder they're discussing adding another high school there.
  14. I heard a rumor that Leander might be dropping back down to 5A. I'm not sure how I feel about that other than feeling some relief for our poor football team. 6A was heck on us these past 2 seasons. Perhaps it would be nice to go back down again, but I was looking forward to 6A state marching competition again with "the big boys." Oh well, it's just a rumor after all. Edit: UIL "SnapShot" day was a few weeks ago. Looks like Leander will barely squeak by with an estimated 2199 students in the 2018-19 school year. The cut off # is 2169 for 5A. We will know for sure the first week in February.
  15. The precision of their marching is simply unparalleled! Just watched a few videos from your links. Incredible stuff. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but such talent!!
  16. I'm so sorry that y'all have to play Lake Travis!
  17. Oh my goodness, y'all. I just ran across one of the most amazing marching band sax solos I've ever seen. I wasn't even looking for anything band related at the time. I guess God just wanted me to see this one cuz WOW. And this boy also played the tuba. THIS is why kids need band!
  18. Very interesting! And colorful. And man, my current Austin traffic SUCKS!
  19. Personal favorite moments... Clearbook's Dracula show when some of the guard jumped out of the coffins and started spinning rifles. Cedar Park when their music turned dark and Jack jumped out of the box. FloMo tossing rifles to some of the band members who then did a bit of equipment work with them. The shockingly high horn toss in Avon's show. Vista Ridge when the guard members were the dogs in the beginning of the sled race. Leander's crazy ending. The Woodlands playing How Great Thou Art. CTJ's parents screaming CaCaw from the stands. Marcus and their super cool body movements. LD Bell's uniforms. The colors!! Just ahhhhhhhh. Vandy's flute solo. Most gorgeous version of Sound of Silence I've ever heard. Cedar Ridge's props, the finger snaps from the band seated on the ground, and the Niagra Falls drill. And my most favorite memory from BOA SA is hands down when Avon played Yellow Rose of Texas, and Dan Potter said, "Welcome to the field, y'all." Or something like that. Edit: actually he said, "Joining us, y'all...from Avon, Indiana.." LOVE IT.
  20. Absolutely. Cedar Park is underrated EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.
  21. Thanks for the vote! Leander got a little forgotten this year in the midst of all the craziness and 12th place spot at San Antonio, but we did get the bronze medal at the Conroe BOA and 4th place in Austin, so it was not a completely terrible year for us.
  22. Last year was our first year to go since 1999. The plan for now is to return again in 2019. I may have to figure out a way go join my 2 CTJ mom friends next fall on their trip!
