2019 BOA San Antonio
principalagent replied to CTJBandPops's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Leander is definitely the Chiefs. Long history, but now a young, upstart, innovative team with a lot of flash and generally strong performance that came on the scene with a bang and showed staying power since. Still hasn’t brought home the biggest brass yet though. -

Jeremiah I think has it memorized but I think they look at all the BOA participants over the last enrollment period and re-balance accordingly. -

The Talk Show was such a fantastic show. -

Also Leander and Vista Ridge are both as definite of locks as CTJ and Hebron and it’s a little bit silly to suggest otherwise. -

BOA Houston 2019

That was *one* result and that was becoming apparent as the season progressed—especially after Area H (which was dramatic, but not because of Vista Ridge). -

Boring in that the competition results were largely predictable and nothing super dramatic happened. Shows were fine, but they’re also tons better this year too. -

2019 is honestly shaping up to be the most fun and exciting year after a relatively boring 2018 and I’m so here for it. -

This isn't the year Westfield makes it back into finals, unfortunately, but that show is a TON of fun! My only gripe is that they didn't include Giant Steps by Coltrane. They're starting to really sound great as an ensemble and their visual demand is beefing up. And most important, their size is increasing. If their directors are committed to sticking around and making this work, I will be their biggest fan as they make it back into Houston finals. I think they can strike the balance of fun and design to make things happen in a short amount of time, just like Geiger did last decade. -

Anyone else not getting sound from the Houston feed? -

Well I suppose Rouse technically can’t defend their 2A Class Championship anymore. -

The only school in Texas that still busses is Cedar Park if I’m not mistaken. Bell also did during their six-year stretch of attending. -

Scores tell a huge story here. They were eight points behind Westwood and five and a half behind Rouse. I can think of probably six or ten bands that fit in that exact eight point space in the Houston regional. -

Westlake might be dangerous to someone from Tarrytown or Rollingwood or Bee Cave I guess -

Those figures are interesting, but don’t tell the full story at all on income. You have to consider the specific geography in question. Flower Mound and Vista Ridge should go up, and Marcus and Cedar Park down even though they’re in the same city. Vandegrift and Westlake would at least double, and Bowie would go up at least 50%. Reagan and CTJ would both at least double, and CTJ might get close to triple the San Antonio figure. Homestead and Park Vista also would both stand to go up since they’re only pulling from the wealthiest parts of their cities. Timber Creek’s value is a lot closer to Keller’s. Cedar Ridge pulls from probably the wealthiest part of that district (although Avery Ranch might actually skew the calculus in Round Rock’s favor). A better test would be to use the home zip code of each school. Additionally, some states publish median income data for a given school. -

Not much in theory. The sheets are similar but with more weight to music and visual performance. -

I would LOVE it if Westfield made it back into a BOA finals. -
