I agree with the above take. Carmel right now reminds me of Blue Devils in the 2007-2015ish era before their shows became a bit more user friendly. They’re playing to the judges more than they’re playing to the crowd.

I mean it's bigger than most bands in Texas but they were HUGE for Serenity just two years ago. Seems that they're about 50-55 now where they had been 75-80.

Just caught Carmel on the livestream. My thoughts are tempered now. I think it’s a really really good show, with a lot of great moments. They’re just not performing it now and a smaller guard isn’t giving the staging moments we’re used to from them (but their work is pretty good still). They’ll more likely medal than not, and gold isn’t out of the question. But I now think there’s plenty of room for a new winner here.

That happened at my very first BOA competition. A kind of a hard thing to put your mind around for me too—especially because it was probably my absolute favorite show of the day. However, they were vindicated with a finals show at San Antonio later that season. And I still listen to it often!

Yep, definitely 4A, but if you look at 1st and 2nd in visual, they're both 3A. So CTJ did win the caption in their class in prelims.

Cedar Ridge, CTJ, and Ronald Reagan all became BOA Grand National finalists in their fourth year of existence. No other Texas bands have made it that quickly (although FloMo made it on their 4th year of BOA competition).

All but one of these openings cut away from Leander's attendance boundary.

They might be 4A by now, but definitely 3A.

I fully understand why and if I were a director, I would be inclined to be similarly strict. One kid can do a lot to tank a program's reputation--even if they mean well. Or they could just be a bit of a blabbermouth or otherwise embarrassing.

I know in the Johnson era, posting on txb or the MFA forums was grounds for expulsion. Even for current parents.

Just caught Carmel on a live stream. It’s their world and we’re just living in it. They’re getting #6 in November unless Avon brings something special or Hebron truly brings some magic.

The lines between classes change every few years but a band’s class can change every year with respect to those lines.
