  1. A review about an Arizona regional on the Txbands forums??? OUTRAGEOUS!!! Just kidding, of course. Always a pleasure to read your reviews. It makes me feel like I was sitting in the stands. Excellent work.
  2. I can't really make an opinion on Reagan's new unis, considering I haven't seen them live and those pictures cover half the uniforms. I do like Westfield's though. For a very faint second, I thought it was Owasso. Don't ask me how. Maybe it was the red.
  3. Take a look at Mansfield, a relatively unknown band. They stirred up some big waves this year at BOA Arlington at a very dense regional. Sure, some degree of performance is expected of certain groups, but, in general, I'm sure the judges don't sit there and say, "Oh, this is LD Bell. I should increase their score by this much because they're LD Bell."
  4. It's not like you have a choice in what class you enter in... You make it sound like you choose. And besides, if the judges think that 5A bands are so much better, then perhaps when they see a really good 4A band, they'll be even more surprised. So just suck it up and perform.
  5. Hmm?? There are no 4A bands in BOA...
  6. Oh, then I do apologize for that. Completely my mistake.
  7. Wow, that was one of the most unclassy, uncalled for posts I've ever seen. Way to represent your band.
  8. Ah, I see. Anyways, the results are a bit interesting. Looks like The Colony is heading back uphill. 12th at Arlington last week and now 6th over Sherman, who placed at State last year, I believe. Way to go, The Colony!
  9. Based just on the bands attending, it seems that the Plano East competition caters a bit towards the more UIL style bands as opposed to the BOA bands? I mean, most of the bands I see on that list do VERY well at Area and State competitions, while they don't really participate in BOA. Could this be a valid statement?
  10. Haha, young one? I'm quite sure I'm older than you are. And next time, you should say that "It's my opinion that X brand is the best for me," instead of calling people tone-deaf if they don't agree with you.
  11. And again, I STILL don't agree with that. You can't just say X brand is the best brand of saxophone because it's NOT like that. You can't generalize brands like that. It's best to test a whole slew of instruments to test which one is best for you.
  12. Again, saying that ALL Selmers are better than any other saxophone is... well, pretty stupid. Some Yamahas, Keilwerths, Yanagisawas, etc... will play better than a given Selmer. Heck, a kid at my school got a Yamaha Custom that played MUCH better than my Selmer Super Action 80. Tone, response, everything was better. Selmer Saxophone A could be better than Yamaha Saxophone A, but not always. It depends on the instrument itself and likes of the player.
  13. I'm pretty sure Xenon reviewed Connally in his BOA Arlington review in the txbpress link at the top of the site. The Connally review is the last one because its an "honorable mention" I believe.
  14. I loved LD Bell's and Marcus's shows at BOA Arlington. SFA... maybe. And, of course, I liked Hebron's (considering I graduated from there.)
  15. Woot! Finally. Good review, Xenon, as always. Also, I agree about the LD Bell trumpet solo. Even though he was facing backfield it was still really loud for a solo.
  16. Awesome. Thanks for the update.
  17. Not really rushing you, Xenon, but I'm just wondering about the status of the review. When can we expect it to be done?
  18. Haha, no. In every band there are always your great marchers and your less-than-par marchers. It happens. I'm quite sure you're not the only band member to think "Man, we'd be so much better if HE/SHE wouldn't be on the field."
  19. Hebron's show is entitled "Music in Every Direction." Pieces included in the show are Rite of Spring by Stravinsky, Dancer in the Dark by Bjork, Jardin Chinois from Cirque de Soleil, and Fur Elise by Beethoven. I think that's pretty correct. I asked some kids from Hebron about the Cirque de Soleil piece because I didn't know it beforehand.
  20. Maybe those one or two bands should've been replaced with your band, right? /end sarcasm
  21. I think that's the second post I've read where you've tried to dish on some finals bands. The bands that made it, made it for a reason. On another note, finals was awesome. I loved LD Bell's show a lot, though it was a little creepy. Marcus was amazing and one of my favorites of the night. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing them in San Antonio. Woot!
  22. it's still a bit of an odd set up. the C* mouthpiece works really well with plain old Vandoren 3's or 3 1/2. i just find it odd that a professor would recommend V16's to a student. but, hey, if it works, use it. it's good that you found a setup that works for you.
