Wow it looks like Duncanville suffered from some really bad rankings. -
Enough to fill a jar. Did you smell that?? Smells like UIL laid a big, fat, wet one.

OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!! I don't like UIL. I just don't see how you don't reward difficulty. Someone with 120 pages of drill doing it well against someone with 50 pages who marches incredibly clean drill. Of course the 50 page band is going to look cleaner. It's sheer numbers. 120 > 50 = less clean drill. I don't understand. -

It's not the judging panel. It's the scoring system. I hate the ranking thing. Using their scores is a more effective way of scoring the bands. Geez there are some crazy rankings going on here... Akins with a 2 and 21 in music. Reagan 23 and 4 in music. Rowlett with 28 and 5. Spring with 20 and 8 in visual. It just doesn't work. -

He did review 41 bands, though. I kinda expected it to be long. Last year's was even longer, I believe. -
A friend of mine was shot this past summer. Maybe some of you remember the story of a family murder/suicide if you live in the Dallas area.

If You Could...

Music of David Maslanka, A Child's Garden of Dreams. I think it could kinda be like The Cadets' show these past two years, since the music is about dreams a sick child had. If you've never heard the music, you're missing out big time. -

SFA did not attend the Super Regional. I don't know why, but I'm assuming Skippy has the answer. Probably due to State the following Tuesday. -
Full Prelims from San Antonio

Geez, in Prelims, there's only a 6.75 point spread from 12th to 1st. Finals changes to about an 8.5 spread, though 12th place score stayed similar at 88.15 to 88.25. Everyone just kicked it up in finals. Talk about an incredibly difficult competition. -

Yea, it's a typo. Harlingen South scored a 79.85 as well. -

Yes, in the event of a tie, highest GE score gets the higher spot. It happened at Arlington between Coppell and Richland. Wow, Hebron had the second highest Visual Ge score of prelims with 19.30, behind The Woodlands with 19.50. I didn't expect to see Cedar Park down at 12th in prelims, though I am not surprised to see them jump four places in finals. They really turned it on in finals. Everything else looks pretty good, though. -
I thought the arrangement was good but not great. It's extremely difficult to arrange Persichetti for a marching band and do it well. The ballad section with the 2nd movement of Symphony for Band was excellent, however. I thought this was their best playing of the show. Psalm for Band was just ok. I found myself singing along a lot, though, since I've played both pieces in concert season.
