  1. haha i think we're sending 14 kids to region this year from the sax section... oddly enough, my sophomore year there were only a total of 12 kids at the region audition.
  2. saxes are probably the top section in my marching band. we have three seniors who are all leaders and one of them (me!) is horn sergeant. playing wise, the top of the section is always extremely close in playing skill. from what my lesson teacher tells me, our fifth and sixth chair kids could go to the other school he teaches at and place among the top of the other section. my friend and i have been toying about the idea of an all hebron sax sweep at region. we had an almost sweep two years ago when we took three of the four chairs.
  3. got one that marched SCV and was also drum major. the other two didnt because they're woodwinds. guard director marched cadets. he said he marched when they won twice... all three techs marched corps... one SCV, one is currently the trumpet section leader at crown and the other did magic/BD. percussion director was at pioneer and maybe boston... im not sure about that.
  4. its pretty competitive at my school. pass offs are a very serious thing . usually they count for test grades. the auditions for concert season are blind and consist of all state music. there are also periodic chair tests during the year over random stuff.
  5. hmm... i've played on quite a few plastic reeds and they've all done perfectly fine for me. my friend james purchased a legere studio cut plastic reed. geez... that thing was amazing! it played exactly, if not better, than the cane reed i was using at that moment... and i thought i had a really good reed. he used that thing during marching season. it still played well even at the end. very reliable reed. and as for ligatures... as a whole they really dont do much except hold ur reed in place. i've seen many amazing sax players play on the regular old things u get out of the box with a new mouthpiece and still sound fine on it. however, i personally play on a bay ligature. it does feel quite a bit different from playing on a typical ligature. i've played on rovners, BG's and the vandoren optimum and this one beats them all out. you should, however, have good control of your tone before you try this ligature. it's also very, very sensitive. when u buy one (they're around 40 dollars) it comes with a warning label telling you not to tighten it too much cuz it would break. but yea, this thing really does wonders. i can definitely feel a difference from playing on the bay as opposed to the other ones.
  6. hebron will be going 5A next year as well. we barely missed the 5A mark two years ago.
  7. this year. i've never had to double tongue so much in a piece of music. and im a saxophone player.
  8. i think im ready for a big finish. i've had a great 4 years at my school and i figured, "hey... u did what u needed to do. its time for it to end." so im pretty at peace with this being my final year. yea, of course im gonna get all teary eyed at our last competition and everything but i accept that this is going to be my last year and it's a really good feeling. this year is going to rock.
  9. haha i tan immensely. and this is also my first year that i've burned as well... its kinda weird. on another note... how much do u guys run? we've been runnin about a mile or so a day. the other day we ran up and down the bleachers of our stadium four times.
