Competing in College
itsstephenyo replied to Marvin's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Yea, that's what I said my senior year until I actually signed up for classes. Not a single music class. I was so intent on majoring in music, too, but then just didn't do it. -
Yea, I was able to catch these performances when it aired on UPN last week. Needless to say, it caught me off guard because I had NO idea whatsoever that they were to be on TV. Anyways, I went to Hebron's homecoming game last night (since I am an alum) and I really enjoyed the show. I also saw Creekview's show and was surprised at how well their show is going. Perhaps they can make a comeback this year. I would like to see that. On a completely different note, if you click on the little sublink to Flight of the Bumblebee, I'm one of the quintet members! I'm the second from the left.

How Many Reeds do you go through in 1 Week?
itsstephenyo replied to rdzsaxplaya's topic in Section Heaven
I used to switch reeds out during the weeks. I had anywhere from 4-8 reeds that I would change out periodically. It seriously makes them last a lot longer. And to rdzsaxplaya... how in the world do you go through 2 reeds a week? Do you try to break them in? Newly opened reeds should only be played on for about 5 minutes the first couple of days and slowly work your way up from there. Opening a reed and playing on it for a couple of hours (rehearsal) will kill the reed. -
Since we're talking about School for Scandal, does anybody have a recording of it?

House season premiere > DCI on ESPN 2, although I did catch the second hour.

Crikey! It really is sad to see him go. The man was so talented in his field and such a pioneer for conservationists and naturalists. He'll really be missed.

Giant Steps
itsstephenyo replied to Xenon's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Haha. Pretty awesome, I think. I like reading all of the comments left by the peanut gallery about the robot. I'd like to see how they get the instrument actually playing. The fingerings could be self explanatory but the production of sound itself is pretty amazing. I'll be honest. When I saw this post I immediately thought about jazz running and LD Bell. Giant steps with robots and trombones? Haha maybe it's a stretch. -

I would also love to have recordings of these pieces, if possible. -
They're a lot more expensive than regular reeds though. Besides, you can turn any reed into a decent reed anyways. Buy some Vandoren 3.5 and a decent reed knife. Ask your private lessons teacher about curing and preparing reeds. He/She should know all about it.

i like ticheli more. i've said it once on here that i've gotten bored of whitacre and that hasn't changed. granted, i haven't heard any of his more contemporary stuff like his Paradise Lost opera, but i have no desire to listen to it.

Lord of the Rings
itsstephenyo replied to Claritone's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
i always thought the opening fanfare of "Gandalf" would be the perfect opening for a show. big huge brass openings. doesnt get much better for a show than that. and the Gollum/Smeagol movement would do really well for a closer/pre-closer type deal. lots of fast trumpet and horn double tonguing and really caustic sounds. -

you should listen to johan de meij's LOTR Symphony. even tho the LOTR movie soundtrack was written for the big screen, de meij's LOTR symphony is vastly superior. both are good, undoubtedly, but de meij's is simply better. -
nobody really knows. the apparent documented case has been distorted so much through story telling that nobody knows if its real. but i was actually there because it happened to me. do you believe me?

Me. I, uh, miss marching band. Do you?

haha how biased. a french lawyer asking a french court to overturn a loss for France. if anything they should ask a third party court... say the U. S. or something. haha but seriously, asking a french court to decide on that is as good as asking an italian court to decide it. you already know the ruling before they even go to trial.

oh i see it now. i like it.
