  1. all right so i've started to become kinda intrigued with the works of steve reich, john cage, and philip glass. thing is, i have nothing by these composers. i've heard recordings here and there but not enough to really make my own decision on minimalism. so here goes a formal request for anything and everything minimalist except short ride on a fast machine.... i really really hate that piece. i'm mainly looking for violin phase by steve reich. anything else would be awesome though.
  2. i have an absolutely amazing recording of symphonic metamorphosis by the philadelphia orchestra. i tend to prefer full orchestras over bands, though. kinda like johan de meij's lord of the rings symphony. he wrote it for wind band but i have a recording of london symphony orchestra playing the snot outta it. if you wanna hear loud brass fanfare, listen to the first 30 seconds. good lord that's a brass section.
  3. the dallas area has tons of bands (marching and concert) that are excellent. if you want to look at just the lewisville district, you've got marcus, hebron, flower mound, the colony, and lewisville. all excellent schools with very good bands. in the neighboring district of carrollton, you've got schools like creekview and newman smith. this is just an example of one district in the dallas area. you can literally go to any district in dallas and pick out a some very solid bands. texas is just swarming with them. and hey, if you move up here you can check out the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra stuff. it has two full orchestras and a wind ensemble and entry is by audition. believe me, its some amazing stuff. the top orchestra group is touring china and japan next year i think. the wind ensemble this year flew up to atlanta to play with the atlanta youth wind symphony. and all the groups can just flat out play. take the first chairs from 30 dallas schools and pop them into one group and you've got a heck of an ensemble.
  4. mmm i love being a senior. at my school i dont have to get there until 1 o clock. add only one period because i have senior pm off and that means im at school an entire hour and a half.
  5. i think it'd be kinda cool if you posted the answers for everyone to see.
  6. i've an excellent recording of it. IM me about it.
  7. i'd heard of a saxophone section whose shirts said "just wait a few seconds and you'll have jazz all over your face."
  8. anybody have this piece? im lookin for a recording of it. i'd appreciate it if someone could send it to me.
  9. hmm.. i'd be interested in hearing that piece as well. honor band of america is playing that piece with otis murphy as the soloist. my friend james is playing alto in that band. lucky kid. by the way, if you're lookin for any other sax solo pieces, hit me up. i have a lot.

  17. simply put, the man sounded amazing. one of the best Eb sounds i've heard in a while. and Eb clarinet is lk tryin to tune someone's whistling. its just not possible. but wow he sounded good.
  18. mMm music for prague. possibly one of my favorite wind band pieces ever. i always thought profanation, music for prague, and any 6/8 sousa march would make for an amazing repertoire.
  19. hmm dallas wind symphony's Eb clarinet player played on a plastic reed last night. i thought that was interesting.
  20. a star wars show has great potential. too bad john williams is crazy about his own music and no band or corp could ever get the rights to use it (except for far and away... which i think he wrote??) music of david maslanka. *drools* combination of a child's garden of dreams and symphony no. 4. wow... beginning of first movement of child's garden... big nice brass fanfares finale from symphony no. 4. whew... would be one ofthe greatest shows ever.
  21. yeaa it is. i think its 4000+ pipes. if you come, i recommend stowing away and joining the group on the stage. the stage vibrates a TON with the organ playing behind you. its awesome.
  22. haha awesome dude. thanks alot. by the way, the combined brasses of both groups are doing a fanfare in the circular lobby of the meyerson before the concert.
  23. i just added a recording of GDYO playing the flag parade from star wars. pretty freakin sweet stuff by john williams.
  24. at region especially they award right notes much more than phrasing and musicality. two years ago the kid who got second chair at my region had AMAZING fingers. wow. clean. but he sounded lk a lawnmore with a screeching cat on it. everything stayed one dynamic. if they'dve taken tone, pitch, and phrasing into account, i don't think he'dve gotten so high.
