  1. No it wasn't J'ai ete au bal, that was my Junior year, it must have been before that b/c I'm almost positive Spicer directed it, which would have put it '05 spring concert season... it would have had to been '04 or '05 spring concert season. It might have had something to do with "procession" too... haha I'm not much help, ugh.
  2. Doesn't sound familiar. Cedar Park's Concert Band played it sometime during '04, '05, or '06 UIL concert season
  3. Hey guys, So I was trying to think of a piece of music today that was played by the concert band at my high school one year (back in the day, like probably 05 or 06). It was in several (maybe 3 movements) and had to do with France (France or French might have been in the title). It also (if I remember correctly) had Fetes or Festival in the title, or had to do with festivals. The main theme of one of the movements was also very similar to the love theme from Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones ("Across the Stars). I know thats some rather sketchy info, but any ideas??? Thanks for your help!
  4. I love bands that have enough talent to change some fundamental element of their show in one performance. To me that just seems... extremely proffessional - "Ok kids, we're doing something different today. Here it is. Execute perfectly - thats all we ask" kids: "Sounds like a plan" A lot of bands would be like "Oh my gosh! what! TARPS! ahhh can't handle change" Although I have to say, I can't really imagine a better ending that the gaurd plastered against the back wall at the AlamoDome... that kinda creeped me out and reminded me of killing cockroaches with sprayer All in all - LD Bell put on the most... effective, and freaky show I've seen
  5. The WC gaurd walked past our (vastly male) (somewhat perverted) drumline at Area at close proximity, and the general consesus was "ewww" In NO WAY as an insult to the gaurd themselves, just the unis. Seriously I really don't want to offend anyone - the general consesus we came to was "I feel sorry for them if they don't like the unis" If someone came up to me at summer band and was like heres you're new uni I would not be happy If I were a parent... I would be fairly upset but to each his own.
  6. haha wow.... We did a show once called Claustrophobia... I thought it would have been cool to have a free form moment and the band traps in the judges... and then some people stay there while the rest of the band continues the show. Then they wouldnt be able to judge MWUAHAHAHA... it was a nice thought
  7. CP's 04 show is an original arrangement of the Planets by Key Poulan -which the CP staff contracted him to do, there is a MIDI on his site of the arrangement and is available to buy by anyone now. As for the drill Michael Gaines did the original one, I didn't see Anderson so idk. The drum book is also VERY similar err... was now that the season is over lol
  8. Ok so in having seen some bands at Area D this past weekend, I couldn't help but noticing Churchill's Gaurd... more specifically their uniforms. Personally I feel really sorry for the girls. Not being a girl I may have a different sense of reality, but if I had to wear an outfit that implied being a hooker... wow I would not be happy. The funny thing is if someone tried to pull an outifit like that off with our band our parents would be up in arms! The directors would burn at the stake. So... I'm wondering what people think of Guard Uni's in general - and what the limit is as far as looking risque... Especially if they're are any WC Gaurd people on here, I'd like to see what your thoughts were Happy discussions!
  9. Uh I only got to see Churchill and Bowie (which made me sad beyond reason, but alas such is life). Churchill... No offense but I just wasn't terribly impressed. Gaurd was amazing as usuall. But the music seemed kinda empty. Overall I think yall were very clean, I just don't remember much of it. so I guess its a question of design, which has nothing to do with the band members anyways. Hopefully that doesn't offend anyone I'm just posting some thoughts. I just didn't get the show, but UIL judges on execution, so what do I know? Bowie - some pretty powerful music. I have to admit when I heard you were playing "Music of the Night" I got all excited for Phantom of the Opera, and then ya'll only played like 10 measures of it and I almost cried. gaurd was pretty cool though. You guys always have original stuff - like feathers and masks and ... night gowns lol Once again I wished I could have seen the other bands - especially Reagan, Cedar Park, and Aikins - and a DEFINITE GREAT JOB to all there Area D has got to be the hardest Area second only to maybe B with Bell, Marcus and the H bands (Hebron Halom Heritage, ... ) and whatever Houston Area that has Woodlands, Spring SFA, Good luck to all at State!
  10. Does anyone want to EXPOUND on the shows they saw? Lol this is supposed to be a discussion, not just a "my fav is" I heard snippets of Westlake live, and saw probably 2/3 of Bowie (on a tape) Bowie is doing something like "Music of the Night" music by John Adams, Night on Bald Mountain, Phantom of the Opera (duh lol - but good music) [edit] PS: The first time I saw their Guard Unis they looked like French Maids, and were somewhat skanky in my opinion lol, but then I saw the end of their show and they different stuff on (or I'm just crazy) and they had masks and purple (maybe?) feather plume things. I am a BIG sucker for Gaurds with plumes (aka Reagan 03 ) [edit] People have mentioned Westfield and SFA and Reagan, and Haltom. What are they PLAYING? Oh and someone mentioned Westwood (I also like their show) its Matrix Music(as in the movies), they have this really cool circular horn move in the begginning ish, that seriously gave me goose bumps - it makes an echo/undulating effect. Cool music, and cool drill. But yeah, if you guys post a "fav show" please include what they are playing and why you like it woot
  11. What is everyone's favorite show this season? If you're gonna pick you're own you can, BUT you have to give 3 good reasons (and don't turn this into an orgy of self gratification... lol errr this is NOT a hype your band post, its a FAV SHOW post) With that said... I haven't seen really any shows this year (I already ranted about this once, so I won't do that again). I have hear exceprts of the original music for LD Bell (www.theremaining.org) sounds like COOL MUSIC (so they get my vote) I also heard a midi of Donna HS (in the Valley) and I like their music too, most of it anyways) I am DEF looking forward to (as always) Reagan, Churchill, Westfield, Bell, SFA, Woodlands, and some others I like our show this year and the music is pretty cool I'm just not sure what to make of it yet - maybe its a little too violent for me to feel attached to it? lol anywho... discuss/list away!
  12. "Westlake 03 Music of Respighi It got 5th at San Antonio that year, one of my favorite musical performance by a high school " eheheh... WestLAKE was most definitely not 5th (no offense) but they were lower than 10th. WestFIELD was 1st... (what I remember) Reagan 2nd LD Bell (I think) SFA Woodlands Brazoswood? someone (Churchill?) someone else CyFalls Cy-Creek? Cy-Fair? Cy-Clops? Cedar Park maybe Brazoswood was here Bowie (i have no idea) Westlake YourMOM HS anywho I'm pretty sure on the top 5 or so, and Westlake was not one of them. As for my "favorite overlooked shows" Owasso 04 Westfield 05 ( I saw it from the floor during SASR prelims... dang. Upper bodies not too great, but it was FO DEF cool - did any tubas ever like pull a muscle doing that? I seriously looked like they took some pills and went into a seizure) Spring 05 (I dont know, something about the singer girl in the little black dress lol ) Woodlands 03 (I liked some of the music a lot - not too much of the show idea) Woodlands 04 (music pretty good, but imprESSIVE gaurd) Bell 02 (I like the first and last 60 seconds or so, and the drill that goes with it, I wouldn't mind it withouth the middle 6 minutes or so lol no offense) Oh snap. SFA 03. Marching Profanation?! How they EVER got that into a marchable time signature? I have no idea but props to the directors and arranger and I'm done
  13. Ah! I LOVE that show. Mostly b/c they have THE coolest dance moves I have ever seen lol. Dance dance. Go. Go dance. dance, dance. go dance. It was just a super cool show and had cool music to boot
