I’m looking forward to the full 2024 BOA schedule being released tomorrow, some possible new regionals, and more clues about bands potentially attending GN. Let us know if you’re going. (I am pretty sure I will be there)!

It was so cool in 2016 when both Cedar Park and Leander attended GN together. Also pretty cool when they were one placement apart in finals (Leander-6th, CP-5th)! Sister schools located within 6 miles of each other, traveling over a thousand miles away, only to be side by side yet again. Good stuff and a very fond memory!

If anyone knows of a guard or indoor winds/percussion group that has used a floor that looks like a hardwood floor and wants to sell it, I have a friend who is looking for one to purchase for his indoor winds group. Thanks in advance for anyone who can help or remembers any group that used something similar in the past!

I also really wish Leander was doing WGI this season. They really have a great guard this year and I was hopeful we would finally see them back in WGI!

You absolutely hit the nail on the head with the entire issue behind Mobley cutting the guard with seemingly little thought to the effect it would have on the kids in the guard program. He evidently never considered the impact his decision could have on so many young people! I’m so happy that the meeting with the parents, guard members, Ms. Stone (the guard director) and Mr. Mobley last night resulted in the decision to keep the guard and to just add a dance team. As a former color guard and band kid myself, and mother of a former marching band kiddo, I completely related to everything you so eloquently said here. I don’t think the director understood the gravity of the decision he had made and I am happy that he changed his mind after hearing from everyone. I am also absolutely thrilled with how the marching arts community came together to help the Dragon Guard fight for the activity that means so much to all of is. We had groups from all over the country sharing and signing that petition yesterday!! Bravo guard world. Bravo!!!

I don’t think this Leander rumor is true. At least not for now. I don’t know how it got on the band calendar but it was quickly removed. I would love to see it happen tho!

I. Am. So. Freakin. Confused. I think the 8 hour rule is pretty useful. I think Texas bands can still achieve incredible heights within the current UIL restrictions even. I also am ok with people agreeing and disagreeing with that opinion. I am however, at a complete loss as to where this entire topic disintegrated into absolute chaos.

I’m partial to the Leander comeback at BOA San Antonio and making finals, placing 10th overall, just a hair behind Cedar Park! 😍😍

Yes of course. I was just making a comparison that I thought people could more easily identify with as far as how different people see different things, even when ranking bands. I guess ideally we would just let a computer do it and remove the human factors completely.

Yeah, what kind of bogus ranking is this anyway? 😉 I’m teasing of course. Just pointing out how truly difficult it is to get band rankings in an order that makes sense to everyone. Sorta like GN was this weekend. Hebron won Prelims, took 4th in Semi’s and moved up to 3rd in finals. Does that mean the judges thought their placement was wrong 2 of the 3 times they judged them? And if so, which of the 3 placements they took in GN is the “correct” placement? Just something to think about….

Oh wow, but how incredible would that be! Yes, CP is just a rumor for now. But it won’t hurt my feelings if y’all go. I’ll even help fundraise! 🤪
