I also really wish Leander was doing WGI this season. They really have a great guard this year and I was hopeful we would finally see them back in WGI!

You absolutely hit the nail on the head with the entire issue behind Mobley cutting the guard with seemingly little thought to the effect it would have on the kids in the guard program. He evidently never considered the impact his decision could have on so many young people! I’m so happy that the meeting with the parents, guard members, Ms. Stone (the guard director) and Mr. Mobley last night resulted in the decision to keep the guard and to just add a dance team. As a former color guard and band kid myself, and mother of a former marching band kiddo, I completely related to everything you so eloquently said here. I don’t think the director understood the gravity of the decision he had made and I am happy that he changed his mind after hearing from everyone. I am also absolutely thrilled with how the marching arts community came together to help the Dragon Guard fight for the activity that means so much to all of is. We had groups from all over the country sharing and signing that petition yesterday!! Bravo guard world. Bravo!!!

I don’t think this Leander rumor is true. At least not for now. I don’t know how it got on the band calendar but it was quickly removed. I would love to see it happen tho!

I. Am. So. Freakin. Confused. I think the 8 hour rule is pretty useful. I think Texas bands can still achieve incredible heights within the current UIL restrictions even. I also am ok with people agreeing and disagreeing with that opinion. I am however, at a complete loss as to where this entire topic disintegrated into absolute chaos.

I’m partial to the Leander comeback at BOA San Antonio and making finals, placing 10th overall, just a hair behind Cedar Park! 😍😍

Yes of course. I was just making a comparison that I thought people could more easily identify with as far as how different people see different things, even when ranking bands. I guess ideally we would just let a computer do it and remove the human factors completely.

Yeah, what kind of bogus ranking is this anyway? 😉 I’m teasing of course. Just pointing out how truly difficult it is to get band rankings in an order that makes sense to everyone. Sorta like GN was this weekend. Hebron won Prelims, took 4th in Semi’s and moved up to 3rd in finals. Does that mean the judges thought their placement was wrong 2 of the 3 times they judged them? And if so, which of the 3 placements they took in GN is the “correct” placement? Just something to think about….

I could be wrong but I can NOT envision a world where Cedar Park skips state! Leander did BOA SA, UIL and GN in 2016 so I can definitely see CP pulling off something similar. They might skip BOA SA, but I don’t see them skipping State. They’re the champions y’all! 😍💚😍 EDiT: I see now that you were talking about them skipping the SA Super and not UIL! Unfortunately this is going to become a real trend with UIL happening annually for everyone now.

I don’t turn the comments off for criticizing the rankings. I turn them off when people get nasty towards other programs. It’s fine to disagree with the rankings. It’s absolutely NOT fine to tear down the kids in the programs who ranked higher than someone thought they should.

Going to GN as a spectator for the first time is an experience I can’t even fully describe! I went the first time myself when Leander attended in 2016 and my band kiddo was a Senior and that was amazing for sure, but even better was taking her back to GN in 2019 as a spectator when Leander went back. She had amazing experiences both as a performer and as a spectator! I do hope both you and Forney will be attending GN very soon!!

They are definitely cracking down on this! I’m especially sorry they closed your Box5 account right in the middle of GN! I definitely thought that was a little harsh!
