Brilliant analysis as always @Rubisco Thank you for that! Iām also anxious to see how Clearbrook does again this year after taking second place in Scholastic A at Dayton last year. (Speaking of which, I watched and featured on my Instagram yesterday the show from last yearās Scholastic A winners, Dobyns-Bennett HS, and I was blown away all over again by it! The design and execution of āThe Brideā was absolutely off the charts!). Iām ready for another amazing season! I just canāt overstate enough though how disappointing it is that TCGC isnāt streamed live. Surely Flo and TCGC could work together on this! But I digress⦠-
I remember in 2016 those poor Leander kids rode the bus straight from UIL state on Wednesday afternoon back to the Austin airport and literally flew overnight to Indy. It was definitely a whirlwind and a lot of the kids were dealing with injuries by that point, but they had a blast! Iām hopeful they will be a little more rested this time. š„“š

Prelims begin on Thursday morning and go through Friday evening. Texas bands usually get Friday performance times since theyāre coming from so far away unless they sign up really late or request a Thursday slot.
-
I bet youāre absolutely dead on with this explanation. I didnāt even consider that! That would definitely explain it because last year they had a nice long extended gap between prelims and finals in order to keep everyone off the field for the hottest part of the day. And they cut the performance times down to 12 min. They definitely couldnāt do this with 30+ bands on the schedule. It was great actually!! I had a nice long time to go eat an early dinner, cool off and get back to the parking lot and in line for finals way before it got brutally long.

Iām finding this information interesting. Here are the enrollment maxes for each BOA contest this fall. Of particular interest to me is the 24 band max for Austin. Has this always been the case (I dont think so!)? And if not, why only 24 bands? Has parking become that difficult at the KRAC?! https://marching.musicforall.org/current-enrollment/

Anyone have any thoughts after seeing some of the show premieres yesterday? I wish we could get some streaming service going for all of the Texas circuits! -

2024 BOA Round Rock (Sept. 21)

Kelly Reeves has been confirmed as the venue. Now weāre waiting for the date to be confirmed. For now theyāre tentatively saying it will be 9/21. -
I love the hotels that are connected to the convention center for sure. They are definitely pricey though. Check out Springhill Suites behind the JW Marriott for a little better price but still mostly an indoor walk to Lucas Oil. Wonderful hotel!

2024 BOA Round Rock (Sept. 21)

Yes, since their inception, both BOA Austin and the Texas Marching Classic have been held at Kelly Reeves. Iām guessing that they are doing their best to continue this trend but have not yet nailed down the dates. -
I remember that so well! I had left the Alamodome as soon as prelims ended so I could jump back in line for finals and grab a good seat. Iāll never forget seeing the Round Rock band kids running out of the stadium in the doors beside where I was standing, and they were absolutely and literally jumping in the air for joy! It was powerful to see how ecstatic they were and everyone around me was as touched and moved as I was by the pure emotion of it all. I definitely cried a little bit watching that! So happy for those kids. ā„ļøā„ļø
