  2. Keep an eye out on Weiss, they are very good and have a good chance at a medal.
  3. I am ready and can't wait! Have my hotel booked for Friday through Tuesday in San Antonio! Unfortunately I will not make Grand Nat's but will be cheering on Team Texas from home.
  4. Would be interesting to see a poll of the students on who would want to go all three (BOA SA, State and GN) . I would think that most (given the chance)would love to make the trip to all 3 with the opportunity to perform and spend the time together. However understood on the $'s part. It is not an easy thing to do.
  5. I am going to predict that at least 3 of them will medal this year ?
  6. That's a great representation of Texas top tier Bands with this group! All are finalist and Medalist contenders. Grand Nat's is going to be something very special again this year!
  7. Congratulations to the Inaugural cast and staff of Omega for receiving an “Expert” rating for the 2021 WGI Independent A Class Finals Championship! Only 10 of 30 Finalists received an "Expert" or "Master" rating putting Omega in the top 10 IA guard's internationally this year! Great first year achievement! fyi: Omega is based in Central Texas near Austin.
  8. Biased as well, will put LISD (South): Vista Ridge (Can't wait to see Vista's first GN Show!) Leander Vandegrift Cedar Park Rouse Glenn ?
  9. Congratulations to all the Bands! Congratulations to the CTJ Band on your Gold Medial! If not for Covid as a Vista Ridge Band Dad I would be honored to return the great big band hug we got in 2018! ?
  10. 1st) Watching my Daughter in the 2018 State 6A finals with Vista Ridge's Lost and Found. My dad who's in his 80's was able to attend and it was such a moving show and experience. 2nd) The "Band Hug" at the Break Ranks after the retreat for 6A State 2018. 3rd) My son's 2013 State 4A (was no 6A then so equivalent to 5A today) performance with Vista Ridge Band winning 3rd place with Scheherazade.
  11. Video introduction to the Vista Ridge 2020 show. I will so love seeing and hearing parts of these 3 great shows! They were my youngest's last 3 years of High School Band and lots of great memories.
  12. The first 4 have to be in with Avon, Camel, Broken Arrow and Tarpon Springs. I would also want to add a California Band and welcome Vista Murrieta back to San Antonio and also Jenks to get more Oklahoma bands coming down to Texas to compete!
  13. Two good articles about the Colorado Study Dan was referring too in his podcast. https://www.nfhs.org/articles/unprecedented-international-coalition-led-by-performing-arts-organizations-to-commission-covid-19-study/ https://www.tampabay.com/news/health/2020/06/26/marching-bands-arent-sure-how-to-handle-the-pandemic-so-they-commissioned-two-studies-involving-spit/
  14. DCI 1978 in Dallas, a very hot August at Lake Highlands Stadium, this was my first DCI contest to watch. I got to see the Blue Stars, Crossmen, Madison Scouts and Boston Crusaders. 1979 HEB Contest (My Sr. Year, biggest contest we went to that year). UIL 6A State 2018, Vista Ridge getting the Gold medal.
  15. Sorry ? I should have known. I saw it and got excited about it and didn't think to wait.
  16. Leander's 2020 show announcement will be April 29th @ 6pm. Until then they will be showcasing a voting tournament on the past 12 Leander Bands shows at this link (link and status on Instagram as well): https://www.leanderband.org/tournament/ Already showing 2008 and 2009. What fun?
  17. For bands truly to grow they need to keep competing with excellence, having top bands mixed in the competitions adds that spark and shows other organizations what it takes to perform at that level. I don't think any top group should apologize or not attend, all are welcome to come out and compete. I would love see Lake Travis, some of the other LISD bands or any band that want's to compete in a great competition attend! The Vista Ridge Marching Festival is an excellent contest ran with excellence with top notch judges year in and out (and lot's of fun!).
  18. Love that you found a giant "table" to turn Will love to see it in action again!
  19. Thanks for the conformation and I have updated the file and links on the original post. Kind of glad it wasn't only me, that mess up on the UIL page was a bit misleading. I also double checked all the other UIL results and the rest look good, but glad to fix it if anything else is off. ?
  20. Thanks, looking at some other sites the scores you show above look like Prelim results. Finals show to be: 1: Cedar Park 2: Dripping Springs 3: Centennial, Frisco 4: Friendswood 5: Lake Travis Please let me know if you agree or where you were able to get the results from.
  21. Just for fun! Attached is a decade in review workbook with links to the show videos. The file has 2010 through 2019 Texas Marching Bands with the top 5 BOA San Antonio and top 5 UIL for each year. Hope this gives you something to watch while we miss Concert and Guard season. Top 5 Texas UIL and SA BOA the decade in review 2010 through 2019 - 2011 fix.xlsx
  22. Thanks Dan for posting! Got my DCI Austin (Round Rock) tickets at 11am sharp today and got my favorite seats!
  23. Here is another reason I love Band so much and am very proud of the Vista Ridge organization this holiday season! Earlier this year at BOA West Texas the Vista Ridge band performed after the Estacado Band, the Estacado band is around 30 to 50 members, Vista Ridge (Students, Parents, directors, boosters) were so inspired by the passion for music that Estacado demonstrated that they had to do something for them. Please see the attach news link for what was done. Great story for this Christmas season! https://www.everythinglubbock.com/video/austin-area-hs-donates-over-5000-to-the-estacado-band/4175266/
  24. So proud of Team Texas and fellow LISD South Bands! What a showing!
