2018 BOA San Antonio?
Nny14 replied to MadisonBandMan1's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Yup! Prelims results are going to be even more useless than before for determining finals results. -

Agreed, the scheduling seems fine. Any real shake ups will come from different views from the respective panels, which isn't that different from normal. Prelim captions ought to be interesting! -

I think it's so cool how a group can have a certain niche like this. Great ideas by the designers. -
Texas Marching Classic 2018 Predictions
Nny14 replied to BandBand347's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
You can get the attention of the drum major and get them to stop the band as everyone should already be watching them. The tricky part is stopping at a point that won't cause an injury. -

Why would a judge ever say that? -

Umm what are you talking about? They won music with Marcus. I think you need the goggles. -
I can kinda understand the CTJ one, but this post just reeks of sour grapes. It's pretty awesome a high school marching band can be acknowledged by a celebrity. Bands need as much sponsorship as they can get as long as schools refuse to fund the fine arts. Vandegrift's drumline is amazing, why wouldn't they be featured a lot? And Flower Mound loves to get meta with their shows, does anyone really think they'd get extra points for that?

2018 BOA San Antonio?
Nny14 replied to MadisonBandMan1's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Well The Woodlands went right after Avon and right before Carmel so their biggest competition was grouped next to them. I think it's more about getting a better comparison than going earlier or later. -
It's possible this might not be the case. I know the rationale for going in 2013 was the Director believed strong finishes at the San Antonio Super Regional the past two years gave confidence the group could make Grand National finals (and we did!). However, with the changes in staff and failure to make San Antonio finals in 2017 (and most likely this year as well ) it's possible they might hold off in 2019. This is just conjecture from an alumnus, but I think it could happen.

During the ballad yeah, that was the whole point. The musical prowess the band showed during that show was incredible to say the least. -
Grand Nationals 2018???

Eh, it's a lot better than last year but it's nothing those 3 can't beat. I expect to see those screens in Tarpons shows for the next couple of years haha. -

Unfortunately not until the contest is over. -

I don't think it'd be a crazy thing to see Westwood advance. They're performing it at a pretty high level even if it's not the most exciting show, and the music is very good. Personally I think they're ahead of their district rivals in UIL standards. -

Could you also tell us who wins the Super Bowl? Considering you apparently know the future. -
The Danpodcast - Cherry On BOA Austin 2018

Yup. Electronic failure caused us to start too early and receive the penalty in 2015 that cost us the regional. It's frustrating as a performer to be heavily affected by something you have no control of. -

Everyone does NOT have that ability. Top of the line equipment is expensive and adds even more advantage to affluent groups. I know it's a reality of the world some schools have more money than others, but we shouldn't let wealth dictate something for bands that isn't even necessary in the first place. If you want to play loud, learn how to play loud. -
The CTJ Effect
Nny14 replied to LeanderMomma's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Hopefully not, I thought it was kind of tacky. Every band has sponsors, but they shouldn't be advertised on the field. It wasn't a really big deal but I don't want it to get to the point where bands look like Nascar drivers. -
Would you mind elaborating? What is "that" type of marching band?
-
You're right, the lost it part was rude of me and I apologize. It's hard for me to not have expectations from when I went there. On a more positive note I know this will motivate them to improve rather than stagnate like previous seasons. Can't wait for area.
-
They completely deserved it. I'm not sure what they're doing there anymore, but they've definitely lost it.
-
It's clear now so I wouldn't go far. I think they're just waiting on the field to dry.
-
Rain and lightning. They've evacuated the stands. Not looking good.
