2019 BOA Grand National Championships
Nny14 replied to BigTrombone's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
There's honestly nothing that states a group needs a wgi championship level guard to score well. Obviously it doesn't hurt, but it isn't exactly a prerequisite. Broken Arrow has been keeping up with Carmel, Avon, and TS for years in visual and anyone can tell you their colorguard isn't at the level of those groups. Vandegrift has a terrific drill writer and I think people are exaggerating this whole thing. In a sea of tarps and dancing Vandegrifts straight up marching and playing is going to shine at nationals and I can't wait to see them.- 1,093 replies

Grand Nationals 2018???

It's funny that you say that considering Avon and Vista Ridge have the same drill designer. -
He's not the type to place blame on judges, but I don't think a complaint would be ridiculous at this point. Imagine if this person had to judge Broken Arrow this year.

Guess it's time Carmel follows Avons lead and gets their butts over here -
Grand Nationals 2018???

I think FloMo and Reagan definitely could have beaten Carmel. Hebron would have won music easily, but I'm not sure they could beat Carmel overall, probably Avon though. -

Called it! -
Omg that's hilarious! It's pretty normal for the winning band to freak out when they break ranks, but I've never seen the other bands swarm the winners like that! Even the Woodlands were getting in there! In that moment you can tell all those kids forgot they were in different bands and spent the whole season trying to beat each other. I think Vista Ridge would have been swarmed by all the bands if they were in the middle! This is one of the best marching band moments of all time and truly epitomizes everything great about this activity. Congratulations to everyone!

Not suprised Vista swept visual. I was straining to find an error in their marching at least once but it was impeccable.

I think the bigger record is when a non-north Texas band won. Its been awhileeeee.
-
We must have watched a different Vista Ridge, because that show is non-stop marching. It might be a little park and bark, but the movement is there.
-
Ugh, Thats ridiculous!
-
Dang, that's pretty frustrating, but honestly pretty good. Jumped over two bands from their area and beat some really good bands that most expected to be in finals. Goes to show how much talent those kids have, I couldn't be prouder of them.

It's one of the most nerve racking things ever. I loved it and hated it at the same time.

That's substantial improvement and it's not a suprise. The best Madison has been.
