  1. The difference between BOA and UIL based events is much more than just the absence of GE. The parameters for evaluating music and visual performance have entirely different standards in the separate circuits. Programing to specific sheets matters, it has nothing much to do with lack of talent. Avon has all the talent in the world but I think they'd find themselves struggling to medal at 6A State based on how they approach show design.
  2. Definitely top 5. They were pretty much a disaster at BOA Austin and scored very well regardless. Probably the group I'm most excited to see progress. Top 3 is in reach but it'll be pretty steep.
  3. Yeah Haltoms placement has me thinking this doesn't align with BOA very well... Congrats to Marcus though, band is better when they're good. I would love to see them make top 7 at San Antonio.
  4. Umm wow Marcus must have been impressive to sweep Hebron. I'm not really familiar with how this contest is judged.
  5. Holy heck I think that was the best Homestead I've ever seen. Not the cleanest performance but they are going for it. Super intense and exciting stuff.
  6. Any given Sunday, or Saturday in this case! I'm also saying this more than just blind Texas homerism, just don't think the overall design of the show is THAT strong.
  7. Disagree about playing for second. That was very much beatable.
  8. Imagine having a world class guard, wind section, drumline, and visual package and ruining it with horrendously cheesy narration. Sorry to be salty but it really ruins the good in this show for me. Ugh.
  9. Very different from the stuff you see in Texas, but very enjoyable. Probably the best singers I've heard in a marching band!
  10. Seriously, they're just so strong on all fronts. I really love Reagan, but I think this is gonna be just like last year and 2015. Like usual I love the show with more viewings and they're performing at an exceptional level.
  11. If youre not a fan of the slow burn then you'll probably never be a fan of these Carmel shows. I really love the visual flow of this show, there always seems to be some sort of movement on the field no matter how subtle. Not super clean musically but itll get where it needs to be come Nats.
  12. Don't most groups travel by Wednesday though? So they'll be practicing Thursday as well.
  13. The question is who would win in that scenario. Who is the most "talented" band regardless of design? What is the show given to the groups like? A controversial but interesting question to think about.
  14. Their colorguard is definitely amazing. I could do without that lame narration though. Visually they'll be pretty much impossible to beat but I like what Hebron and Vandegrift are doing musically more.
  15. Keller has plenty to expand on for San Antonio. It'll be exciting to see how they grow.
  16. I'm not really seeing Bowie over Keller. I thought that was pretty impressive but with some room to grow.
  17. That was beautiful Dripping Springs. I loved every second. Wonderful job.
  18. I mean they're pretty decisive as who they choose to judge. A lot of them are even DCI judges or directors of successful programs. Let's not act like this is the only panel that has graded Hendrickson poorly this season.
  19. The judging there was a lil suspect imo. But it's all subjective and it's hard to argue with a caption sweep.
  20. Yeah I was very bored at the time haha. Glad I did though!
