I remember at my high school’s marching contest the announcer came on after prelims performances when the judges are tabulating the scores and said “If it were easy we’d be done already”.

No, that was a pretty clean run. I think they may not have been too pleased with the result at the Super Regional and took it out on the show tonight. This is the best that I've seen them (and I've seen them a lot this year in contests, festivals, and games).

Oh I fully am expecting chaos tomorrow. I will be surprised if there is little movement between prelims and finals results.

I hear you. I’m still trying to master these predictions. Sometimes my predictions are wrong for prelims but are right for finals or vice versa. Or I’ll place a band solely on one aspect of their performance instead of the whole thing, and be right for that category but not the whole placement. And I’m still trying to figure out the different ways judges adjudicate prelims vs finals.

From the Danpodcast they are doing a top half/bottom half split for finals this year just like BOA.

So the guy that’s the announcer for all the UIL comps…I feel like he’s been the lone voice for years. Maybe even for BOA? 

I wonder what his story is! Can we meet him? LOL. I feel like I know him!

That's what I thought. I think the top 4-5 is so fluid, and I think 6-10 could change a bit as well. I know that big shifts is rare in BOA finals competitions, but everyone is so close right now that it wouldn't surprise me if we saw some bigger jumps/drops tomorrow.

Our band director said they pre-drew for finals. So in theory they should know roughly where they'll end up on the finals schedule.

On the Danpod it said that they still drew for finals before the contest and the split is created right before finals.

Oh ok so everyone gets a number and they perform in numerical order based on whether they’re in top half or bottom half.

I don’t believe there is a top-half/bottom-half split for UIL. You just perform based on the order of that sheet if you make finals.

Just out of curiosity, how are penalties given out at UIL? At BOA since the scoring is numerical obviously it just makes sense to see a 0.1 in the box for things like going to early or stuff during warm-up or the many different penalties a band can get, but does UIL have similar penalties, and if so, how are they scored? In my two decades of watching Texas high schools I've never even thought to consider it.
