LostChoirGuy
Wow. All three of the top Leander ISD bands placed ahead of the top Lewisville ISD band. These two districts are easily the strongest for marching band in the state, and that has happened for LISD north before, but this is the first time I can think of for that to happen for LISD south. lost
Reminder. Just because a band placed say 35th does not mean they’re bad. 45th broke an 80.500. That’s an 80.

SpartanBandAlum
Bands that scored an 80 or higher roll all the way into the 40’s placements. That says something about depth All the way to 46th, with an 80.
Trumpetman7
Hmm timber creek went from 17-45 in one year. I kinda think that is inaccurate but ummmm... okay sure. Also JBA and just some generally sketchy stuff. Not blaming judges just pointing out that this contest outside of finals is looking a little bit fishy... josephbandfan
Wylie is the big one to look out for in my opinion. They have had several great shows the past few years and came in at 18th overall- ahead of groups like Coppell, Cedar Park, and Prosper. They went from 22nd in 2017 to 44th in 2018. Glad to see they are back kevboi

BandFan59
50th was a 78.1. 14th was a 88.775. That's a 10.675 point gap. Insane. josephbandfan

The points spread is nonexistent here because the competition is just so deep
BandFan95
Gotta love that RRISD rivalry. Round Rock barely edged out Cedar Ridge and Westwood for that last finals spot. 14th, 15th and 16th. BandFan59
A little further analysis of the panel debate with the prelims results: 5 of the top 7 bands in prelims were from Panel 2. The highest score in prelims for Panel 1 was Ronald Reagan who scored 94.7 and was 1st overall. The second highest was Claudia Taylor Johnson who scored 92.9 and was 5th overall. The third highest was Flower Mound who scored 92.57 and was 8th overall. The highest score in prelims for Panel 2 was Leander who scored 94.35 and was 2nd overall. The second highest was Vandegrift who scored 94.05 and was 3rd overall. The third highest was Vista Ridge who scored 93.9 and was 4th overall. Of the top 20, 9 bands were from Panel 1, and 11 were from Panel 2. The score gap for Panel 1 ranged from 94.7 to 86.97. The score gap for Panel 2 ranged from 94.35 to 87.3. Just some food for thought. Hard Core Band Fan
LostChoirGuy
Looks like Keller went from 5th in prelims to 11th in finals for Music, which was their strength for sure this year.
BlueCircle
FloMo in ninth was pretty accurate to what I saw in the dome, but Keller should’ve stayed as 10th imo. Vista Ridge was shockingly clean and deserved every bit of that medal. But what’s the point over arguing about scores...I’ll give my full thoughts later. ratbu123
kevboi
Wylie is the big one to look out for in my opinion. They have had several great shows the past few years and came in at 18th overall- ahead of groups like Coppell, Cedar Park, and Prosper. They’ve been kind of slept on these past couple of years. Glad to see that they did this well at this tough competition!

Similar to when Keller got 3rd in music in 2016 prelims, but dropped in finals.

Rubisco
The more I sift through the recaps, the more baffling they become. It just seems like the judges and I watched very different shows this weekend. To each his own, I guess! At least the band that should have won came out on top, and with the highest ever finals score a Texas band has posted! Congrats to Reagan! I’m interested to see what happens at Nationals with our TX groups. They’ve got 2 weeks, and as 2016 demonstrated, what happens at San Antonio isn’t always the best predictor of what happens at Nats. I am, of course, super excited at the prospect of 6 TX bands in finals. And hopefully Vandy’s music can put them over the edge and help them bring the Eagle back to Texas.
