  1. I don't know how, but I'm sure you adjust to it. Our tuning tonight was awful and our poor French horn soloist was really struggling to get those notes out. And he's an amazing musician!
  2. Let me just say after sitting outside for 3 hours at the Leander vs Lake Travis game just now, man am I glad that BOA SA is indoors! Not only did we freeze our rear ends off, but the poor band kids were struggling too. It's just too cold to play metal instruments outdoors!
  3. Hahahaha! We've lurnt a thang er two.
  4. And we ain't stopping at Buccees either, kids!
  5. Hmmmmm....well, you do have a point there. I could always wrap them up in an adult diaper. I guarantee you the bag police ain't touching THAT!
  6. Oh good. I knew all those cookies I baked you and breakfast tacos I brought to your house would pay off. (BTW, I'm KIDDING, people!) Need me to bring you any Bush's tender rolls at BOA SA?
  7. Close enough. I actually live in Cedar Park but am zoned for Leander HS, so I get the confusion!
  8. Geez, if they'd start that thing at 8 am rather than 9 am, they could start finals at 7:45 pm. An 8:45 pm start time for finals is nutso!
  9. Oh my goodness! And they say band is not an athletic activity. I hope you are feeling fantastic for BOA SA if your band is attending!!
  10. Oh, I know. It was what I would call Southern Sarcasm. We Texans aren't really known for being humble! But I was completely serious in regards to Avon being BOA royalty.
  11. I guess I'll just have to wait until I see the Atlanta FloMarching feed before casting judgement because based on those 2 videos of Haltom and CR, I thought Cedar Ridge had the more superior program.
  12. Don't forget the ice skater in Homestead's show. That one surprised me for sure. But I liked it! Things are definitely a little different in the more northern bands. Not bad-different by any means. I just find the difference interesting, and I'm noticing it more and more as I watch all of these competitions around the country. I wonder...is California's marching band scene yet another style? How many styles are there, truly? We all tend to get stuck on "our" style and look down our noses at the others when what we really ought to be doing is appreciating how truly amazing the top bands in the country are REGARDLESS of their style. Avon is in the truly amazing category and Texas is honored to have such BOA royalty coming down to join us in our humble little competition. Let the games begin!!
  13. The district definitely did NOT pay for us to do GN last year. We did a crap ton of fundraising (over $65K), and still had to pay roughly $1300 to Music Travel Consultants for the trip on top of our regular annual $450ish in band fees. But that's not to discount how supportive the district and school administrators at Leander are. Heck, our principal went on the trip with us and worked along side the band parents!

  15. Oh my word, it's only 11 am and I've already reached my "quota of positive votes for the day."
  16. Ha ha, that reminds me of that hilarious contact ad from several years ago. I think it was for 1-800-CONTACTS. Anyway, the wife was telling her husband they could save money by using that service, and he said his eyes were "special." Then the wife makes some snarky comment for him to look at the ad with his "special eyes." Dang it, it loses something in the telling! But it used to crack me up, and my youngest daughter and I still use it in conversation whenever we can. "Look at this with your special eyes." Oh I found the ad!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrqdduneB-o It wasn't as snarky as I remembered, but it's still hilarious.
