The Danpodcast - Cherry On Austin
LeanderMomma replied to Danpod's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Haha, you crack me up Daniel. So many things to reply to! 1. YES to the disgustingness of cherries on top of ANYTHING! Leave them off!! ICK! 2. I didn't notice you being any more roasted than anyone else really, tho you were pretty red. I just figured you were on FIRE from the whole BOA Austin experience...because lemme tell ya, it was hot in EVERY way on Saturday! 3. Four Bush's tender roll sandwiches, Daniel???!! WOW! That's some serious love right there. I get it, tho. I definitely feasted on some kettle corn on Saturday. YUM! 4. CTJ totally deserved first place. They were remarkable. Hands down favorite all over the stadium. Can't wait to see their progression this season. 5. Prairie View A&M was the most fun thing I've heard and seen in a long time. Just YES, in every way. It was a pleasure meeting you Daniel, as well as seeing and speaking with Daniel Sanchez again. And I encourage everyone that gets a chance to definitely take the time to introduce yourselves to the TX BANDS staff. These guys work real jobs and still find the time to devote themselves wholeheartedly to Texas high school marching band in all its glory. And suffocating heat. Thank you guys for all you do to further spread the band love in Texas. See you all next weekend! -
Sure did and it was totally worth getting up early for. They were a great band and we saw some real potential in them. Absolutely loved their show!
-
Is that from the heat yesterday, or from the incredible band performances?
-
Daniel, I hope you're planning a post BOA Austin podcast!
-
Yep, Leander took 2nd in prelims. We always seem to slip a bit at finals, and I never really can see an obvious reason for that. Keeps things interesting for sure!
-
It was mesmerising, truly. I felt like I was watching the Bluecoats!! It may be my favorite as well, or at least a close 2nd with CTJ. I can't wait to see it again!
-
No, I hear what you're saying. I kind of got the same sense from several bands this year, actually. Less of the "magic" that sets a band apart. Lots of awkward endings too. Yes, I know the bands only know 70% of their shows for the most part at this point, but overall I just felt like there were a LOT of so-so endings with no punch. More so than years past. I wonder if that hurts the scores at all.

CTJ blew me away in every way with that show. It was brilliant. Yes, it certainly helped that they were the only band with a complete show on the field, but it was just a masterpiece. My definite favorite from them so far since I first started watching in 2013. I hope they kill it in San Antonio! And Cedar Ridge!! Just WOW.
-
I absolutely loved their show!! I'm so glad my daughter and I made the effort to get there early so we could see them. I think Pioneer is definitely a band we will see more of in the future and I hope they just keep getting better and better.

It rained in Leander yesterday for 5 minutes and the sun was shining the entire time. When I headed out to the football game at Kelly Reeves stadium last night, the streets were dry as a bone less than a mile from my house. Evidently the showers are EXTREMELY localized. Y'all get some rest and we will see you in the morning. Let me know if y'all need anything!

Ha ha, it's looking that way for once!!!!

2017 BOA St. Louis
LeanderMomma replied to bandperson1997's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Okay, so when they have the first BOA JAPAN, who's going with me??! Wait....I guess that would be BOJ. -
Videos don't do the bands justice. I hope every band parent with a kid in BOA gets to attend a BOA event live. There is truly nothing like having that experience. I can't wait to see all of the bands on Saturday!!
-
Can I change my prediction? I just saw Leander and all the stuff they've added. Let's just say....mind blown.
-
It's always weird to me, too. But UIL bases it on 9-12th and BOA bases it on 10-12. Evidently we have a lot of kids dropping out of school after their Freshman year. j/k Seriously tho, we are barely a 6A school and we only moved up to 6A last year so things could change classification-wise one of these days. LISD is opening up yet another school in 2020 or 21, so we may move back down. OTOH, Leander is growing like mad. It's cray cray I tell ya!!
-
Hang on to them...you may need them next weekend at BOA DFW! Rain is in the central Texas forecast next week. ;-)
-
He mentioned in the podcast that they would be.

Fabulously interesting perspective! Thank you. You have given me a lot to think about. It reminds me of that old saying, "money can't buy you happiness, but it sure helps!" -
AVON AT BOA SA?????
LeanderMomma replied to jcbg's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Ahhh, interesting!! And it will be especially tough to win after performing first in finals with the new system of splitting the draw. I like the new system though. It makes sense. -

Haha, I'm sure you will!! I'm debating eating breakfast before I come or taking a chance on some breakfast tacos. Hard life choices I know! -

See you on Saturday!!! Hey....do you remember if they serve breakfast tacos? Seems like they do. Can't wait to see the LISD, RRISD and San Antonio bands lay it down....woo hoo, is it Saturday yet????? -
AVON AT BOA SA?????
LeanderMomma replied to jcbg's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Yes I've always HATED trying to read thru the BOA result sheets. I'll be going to HornRank from now on. I never realized that info was available in such an easy to read format there! -
Heads up to anyone coming to BOA Austin this Saturday--it is swelteringly hot here with no signs of it letting up anytime soon. 95 degrees is the high every day this week, and after my 2 mile afternoon walk today, it was just nearly unbearable. Wear cool clothes and a hat, and don't forget the sunscreen!!

AVON AT BOA SA?????
LeanderMomma replied to jcbg's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Having experienced both over the years, I have to agree about GN Saturday. However, BOA SA comes in a VERY close second!!!
