  1. When you were telling the story and you got to the part where you had just opened the sandwich and were about to take a bite, I thought you were going to say that you saw something nasty crawling out of your sandwich, or that the announcement to stop eating was because they had discovered that all of the food was spoiled.
  2. Did you ever get to eat that sandwich??!!
  3. Dan, let me first say how much I enjoyed this podcast along with the one telling the story from BOA Houston in 2000-ish. You have quite a knack for storytelling. I could truly listen for hours!! Also, you are so right about Tex Mex anywhere outside of this area. It's pointless to even try. I never thought about the transition from DCI back to high school band, and you made some great points about how to handle that. Hopefully lots of these kids will hear your message and take it to heart. Can't wait to hear more!
  4. Perhaps your approach is a bit high handed? Especially for a relative newcomer to this forum. You are a bit aggressive IMHO. But i do think you mean well.
  5. I hear ya! Some former parents still volunteer at Leander as well, I know. I just wonder if the competitions will "feel" the same now. Guess I'll find out this fall!
  6. Well not really die, but more or less, what do we do when our band kid graduates and we have all of this stored up band parent energy and enthusiasm with nowhere to express it??!! Obviously I can still go to games and competitions, and I WILL, but it's never going to be the same. We'll just be those weird former band parents that never move on. But I'm ok with that, I reckon. Because band. And because Texas. ;-) Who's with me??!! #nevergraduatingfrombandparenthood
  7. Can't wait to see the VRHS show and what Glenn puts together this year for their very first BOA experience!
  8. We placed 3rd in both 2014 and 2016. We only got to do an exhibition in 2015 due to the Great Flood of 2015, but we were great that year too. ;-)
  9. I was able to see all of the big guys Tuesday in Broken Arrow and was just completely blown away by all of them. Yes, the Blue Devils are brilliant this year and deserve first place. Hearing them play Flight of the Bumblebee is simply astonishing live. Just such a fantastic show. I'm also crazy about the Blue coats show and am disappointed that they keep placing 4th. I'm not as thrilled with Carolina Crown's show, but it's growing on me. SCV is brilliant. I also love, love, love Phantom Regiment! They haven't placed well, but I am so in love with their production as a whole. And can I just say....I love that their color guard is all girl!! So many of the corps are almost completely male nowadays, and I understand it because guys are stronger overall and can do more stunts, but it was refreshing for me to see the all girl guard with PR. BUT I LOVE THEM ALL!
  10. I just stumbled upon a video of the Trinity Trojan Band at UIL in Bedford last fall. While I really enjoyed their program, it struck me that like Leander ISD, Trinity is stuck smackdab in the middle of the other insanely competitive LISD district! How can a band like Trinity stand out amongst so many marching GIANTS?! It must be a bit disheartening at times to be apart of such a district and I feel for these otherwise great bands. It's a bit like when Leander HS had to play Lake Travis in football last fall. Can you say SLAUGHTER??!! Lake Travis has been 6A state football champs repeatedly, and for good reason. They are INSANELY talented. It was tremendously painful watching that football game from the visitor side (other than the half time show of course!), and I'm sure bands like Trinity must feel the same way at UIL and BOA marching competitions. I'm excited to see that Trinity is headed to BOA Atlanta this fall, and I hope they do well there. I just wanted to give a shout out to the Trinity Trojan Band and all the other great Texas bands that often get overlooked amongst the powerhouses of the LISD's. I'll be rooting for you!!
  11. And Cedar Park's is up as well.
  12. Somehow one of my posts went through 3 times and to save my life, I do NOT see a delete icon or the word DELETE anywhere! I just want to delete 2 posts that are repeats. Should be simple...not sure why I do not see how to do it. --frustrated in Leander
  13. Tonight's preview was ah-may-zing!!!!
  14. OMG Daniel (xenon)! You were just a kid! :-P When I grow up, I want to be you.
  15. I think an entire show centered around amazing video game music would be awesome. The music is phenomenal in video games, and the themes a band could base on the gaming industry are practically unlimited! Come on TX BANDS, one of y'all DO IT!
  16. How often do wait listed bands actually get a spot?
  17. Somehow I don't think Avon is going to suffer all that much with less Saturday rehearsals. They're awesome and they'll be alright I'm sure. But it will definitely be "interesting."
  18. I love how old this thread is and it's still going!
  19. Dangit I was trying to reply and hit the button too soon. I was just going to thank you for a brilliant analysis on what UIL judges are looking for!
  20. Zach really does do an AMAZING job!!!
