  1. I disagree. How can the previous year(s) NOT influence a band's overall ranking? I guess maybe there could potentially be two ranking systems. One, like now, that sort of ranks the overall "big picture" of where a band stands (heh--band stands), and another that strictly orders the bands based on how they scored at their most recent contest. Of course, poor Jeremiah would never get any sleep, but hey, it's BAND season man!!
  2. I'll never forget when Leander won BOA Austin in 2015 without winning one single caption. I will also always remember how excited Daniel Sanchez (Xenon) was when that happened. It was a superb day. Texas for the win!!
  3. It's the Austin/Southlake/Conroe/San Antonio world tour, baby!!
  4. I can't wait for this contest. I'm headed to Texas State tomorrow afternoon to pick up my baby girl and then we will hit the road to Shenandoah/Conroe/The Woodlands TX!
  5. Yes, that's exactly it! They were hypnotizing and I couldn't take my eyes off of them either. I expect to see them moving on up in the very near future.
  6. In looking at the predictions page for this contest, I'm noticing quite a large number of folks who are slating Ronald Reagan to take it all at Conroe on Saturday. I'm so curious as to why that is. Not that I don't think they can, because they obviously can, but after dropping a bit in the rankings last year, why are people still predicting them to win in such great numbers? Is there something I don't know about their show this year? Just an observation, of course. Ronald Reagan is an amazing band for sure!
  7. oh wow, how fun! It does sound a bit painful, though. The things we do for glory!!
  8. Oh my, you have the best stories. That poor girl!! I bet she still feels embarrassed about that moment in her life. That's something that scars you forever! I did one stint in a high school musical (South Pacific), and I'll never forget how much I enjoyed being in the pit for that. I wish I had done more because it truly was a great experience. And fortunately, it was also a puke free one. Oh I just remembered another musical I got to be a part of! I played flute during concert season, but was in the color guard during marching season 8 - 12th grade. (I was fortunate enough to audition for and make the high school band the summer before my 8th grade year--such an honor!). Anyway, I was color guard captain my Junior and Senior years, and my best friend and I were featured during a production of The Music Man. We did like a short 32 count routine front and center of the stage during a parade scene of the musical. I will never forget how fun that was. Great memories from my band years. Good stuff!
  9. Oh I can't wait to listen to this one. Sounds like a day in my life as a preschool director!
  10. Wish I lived closer and could attend!!
  11. Yikes! Are they just always late in signing up for these BOA's perhaps?
  12. That's exactly what I was thinking. It's always good for a program to lose a few times; it helps them appreciate and go for the wins even harder!
  13. Huh-larious. This guy is too good at this. The Benny Hill music and sped up footage of the bands taking the field totally cracked me up. This was brilliant. I'm sensing a definite theme within txbands.com. It begins with Dan and ends with iel. Great job!
  14. That's incredible! They were great!!
  15. I hear ya! I just love the respect the band kids (and most parents) show for each other's programs. Sure, there is that competitive spirit that drives individual bands to succeed, but woven throughout every competition is the high level of respect and recognition each band has for one another, especially within the same districts. And how incredibly supportive was CTJ last week of every single band taking the field? LOVE those kids! #TeamTexas baby!!
  16. Very enjoyable podcast as usual, Daniel. I listened to it on my 3 mile walk. No, I didn't walk the entire 3 miles in the 26 minute podcast.....hey I'm working up to that, okay? First, thank you for doing these podcasts. They just help to extend the enjoyment factor of the whole BOA regionals watching experience, and I look forward to your perspective at the end of each one. Southlake BOA definitely exceeded my expectations, and I was so glad to have made the trip from Austin to Fort Worth for the experience. Secondly, you sound tired, Daniel. Get some rest, young man. You work too hard. A few things I wanted to comment on in particular: 1. I'm sorry you had to work and miss pre-lims because there were truly some great bands that didn't make finals! And I'm OH SO PROUD of Vista Ridge for doing so well considering they had to drive all night, sleep on the bus, and then make an 8 am performance time. Their finals run was great, and I was a proud Leander ISD momma in that moment. I think my daughter and I cheered loud enough for all of the LISD parents that couldn't be there. 2. Flowermound was as exciting to watch as CTJ last week in Austin. I'm truly not sure which one is more exciting to watch at this point and I can't wait to see the battle in San Antonio! 3. Hebron. 4. Hebron. 5. Hebron. 6. I have nothing else to say.
  17. Maybe I just missed it somewhere, but has anyone discussed just how AWESOME those body movements by the Marcus band looked on the field Saturday? And how PERFECT they were? It was just mesmerizing and I loved getting to see it 3 times total (I was also at the Marcus/Bell football game on Friday night where I saw it first). I can't wait to see how they build on all of that by BOA SA and Grand Nats. So fun to watch!!!!
  18. Off the wall question I know, but I'm curious if I listen to the podcast via this site vs going to YouTube, will it drain my data plan dry if I'm away from Wi-Fi.... Just pondering out loud.
  19. Zach's pictures just reminded me of how awesome Liberty HS's uniforms were, and their fantastic "swaying" pit with the bass guitar player. They were most definitely the "coolest" band at yesterday's contest!
  20. What happened, if you don't mind my asking?
