  1. Not only is this venue bad for acoustics, it is a logistical nightmare for getting bands in/out.
  2. https://yea.org/news/1663-introducing-new-usbands-southwestern-championships-at-at-t-stadium-in-dallas On October 21st, 2017, USBands will be holding the first ever marching band competition to be hosted in the Cowboys' AT&T Stadium. They are targeting enrollment to be "up to 60" bands. This is the week before 1A/2A/3A/5A Area on the same day as several UIL Region competitions, so we will have to see about attendance.
  3. In case nobody noticed, Duncanville has changed from the waitlist of Conroe to having a spot at DFW.
  4. Of note. These lists include bands that are on the waitlist for that event. Specifically, for Conroe and San Antonio as those two events are currently overbooked. As such, some of the waitlist bands are currently actively deciding whether to move to a different regional or to stay on the waitlist.
  5. 2017 BOA Attendance Lists are available! 6. The Golden Girls GIF will always be the best post of this thread.
  7. Here is Avon's official announcement about going to BOA SA.
  8. We also shouldn't completely rule out the idea that the UIL Marching Band 8-Hour Rule has likely been a long-term benefit for TX bands (and bands across the country) as TX directors have had to heavily focus on their pedagogy skills and methods in order to optimize what they can get out of those 8 hours.
  9. I'm a big fan of Malcolm Arnold music, especially well played.
  10. With only 10 Finalist spots available, it is possible that making Conroe Finals could be harder than making SA Finals with its 14 spots.
  11. The quintessential is Star of Indiana 1993. And of course, Crown 2016. From a HS perspective, (the cogs show) is one of the best. 2nd place to Spring at BOA Houston, 6th at UIL State, and 9th at BOA Grand Nationals. And just 1 year after what is probably Churchill's best show of all time, the 1997 Shostakovich show that still to this day owns the highest BOA non-Super Regional score ever posted of 96.00 (and the first of multiple times that they were announced before the end of the show) Some others more recently that I can think of are Forney 2014 and Mansfield 2011.
  12. I can confirm that Duncanville is indeed signed up for the 2017 BOA Conroe Regional. This will be the first time back to a BOA marching contest since they made 1993 BOA Grand National Finals. Duncanville's complete BOA marching contest history: 1991 - BOA Fort Worth Prelims - 2nd (behind Westfield) 1991 - BOA Fort Worth Finals - 1st, Music, General Effect 1991 - BOA GN Prelims - 5th in AAA and overall, Music AAA and overall 1991 - BOA GN Finals - 6th, Music 1992 - BOA Denton Prelims - 1st, Music, Visual, General Effect 1992 - BOA Denton Finals - 1st, Music, General Effect 1993 - BOA Houston Prelims - 4th 1993 - BOA Houston Finals - 4th 1993 - BOA GN Prelims - 6th in AAA, 8th overall 1993 - BOA GN Finals - 9th Duncanville was also a Featured Ensemble at the 1995 BOA National Concert Band Festival and was scheduled to compete in the 1995 BOA Houston Regional (my Freshman year) but pulled out the morning of the event due to a guard member tragically losing her life the night before. Here are links to the videos of the 1991, 1992, and 1993 shows that competed in BOA (also bonus 1995 video since that one was originally scheduled for BOA) 1991: 1992: 1993: 1995: 1995 is my sentimental favorite since it was my freshman year (also because of The Wind and the Lion), but 1991 is my favorite overall of the bunch with some of the last drill that the legendary Steve Brubaker ever wrote. Steve Brubaker also wrote the drill for PCEP (GN Champion) that year.
  13. Yes, assuming no drastic unexpected circumstances, Avon (Indiana) will be coming down to Grand Nationals South.
  14. Yes, Avon is coming down to BOA SA. The Southern Grand Nationals indeed! And yes, the fact that both SA and GN this year had 0 movement between the two halves in Finals is concerning. That was always the risk associated with this change.
  15. I had seen The Remaining many times and loved the way it evolved throughout the season with so many different endings. The BOA SA and State endings with the guard trying to escape the horrors of the field and just straight up slamming themselves onto the back wall of the Alamodome and those huge thuds reverbing through the dome through the silence of the crowd. *Haunting* And then the surprise BOA GN ending with the white silk of redemption. You could feel the intensity of the crowd as there was silence, then a HUGE gasp, and then silence once again.
  16. I can listen to The Wind And The Lion for days (Lassiter 1998).
  17. Here is what I'm thinking for my personal picks of TX bands: 1) FloMo 2016 2) Marcus 2007 3) Spring 1993 4) FloMo 2015 5) LD Bell 2006 6) Marcus 2012 7) LD Bell 2007 8) Duncanville 2002 9) Westfield 1998 10) Hebron 2015 And there are many many others in the running.
  18. I'm betting that they will just push several of the 6A UIL Regions a week back around that area in order to avoid conflicts.
  19. The Midwest Conference is going on and that means that the initial 2017 BOA Schedule has been published! http://www.musicforall.org/what-we-do/boa-marching-championships/full-fall-schedule We even have a new Regional in TX, thanks to Midland for making it 6! September 23rd - BOA Austin - Round Rock's Kelley Reeves Athletic Complex September 30th - BOA DFW - Southlake's Dragon Stadium Also September 30th - BOA McAllen - Veterans Memorial Stadium October 7th - BOA Conroe - Woodforest Bank Stadium (Site Tentative) October 14th - BOA Midland - Grande Communications Stadium November 3rd-4th - BOA San Antonio Super Regional - The Alamodome
  20. I would love it, but Avon and Carmel and others are too good to let that happen without a huge fight. Although, it has been really really close a few years, and even happened once in Semis.
  21. Cedar Park's show never fully took ahold of me until Grand Nationals when every bit of the design and the entire story line finally all came together. And I think that CP was also the best sounding band at GN from a full richness and clarity of sound standpoint while that wasn't entirely true in San Antonio.
  22. And the Cubs won! And GN had a tie for 12th and 1st. So many impossible things all in one year.
  23. One thing to keep in mind is that Grand Nationals most of the time is not the weekend immediately after UIL State. Most of the time there has been a week between the two, but this year, State was a week later than normal because the first Monday of November was the 7th, causing it to be the latest date State could possibly be.
  24. I know that Leander flew because they were in the Indianapolis airport with me at 3am on Sunday.
  25. Confirmed, it is a bottom7/top6 draw.
