Cedar Park should be in with that incredible music performance. Bowie is going to have a really hard time climbing out of a next-8 performance slot and the stigma that includes. But it has been done before, notably by Broken Arrow in the late 90's.

Yes, in a good way. It's the exact same show and hardly watered down at all musically and the drill was definitely inspired by the original. They played and marched the heck out of that show and still managed to make it unique with a slightly different take on the same theme.

Yup, it very much looks like a score management issue that caused Thursday to have scores that were significantly inflated compared to Friday. The plus side for Bowie is that they got the best possible next-8 performance slot, right after the top-22.

You are correct. They also were 2nd place in both 1983 and 1985 (in the largest classification). I was shocked when the interview people were saying it was their first time.

Yes, judge's rule has been used before. In 2001 1A between Sundown and Throckmorton. The one that had the lower rank score was incorrectly announced as the champion without realizing that the rule needed to be applied. As such, they were eventually both named co-champions.

40 total 6A bands in State Prelims on Tuesday and then 12 in Finals on Wednesday.

PESH really did step things up a ton during Finals. Everything seemed to flow better, the synth wasn't nearly as humongous, and everything was more emotional.

This happened to The Woodlands in 2008 and North Shore ended up taking their place at State. TWHS already had the travel arrangements set up and mostly just handed them over to NS since it was a last minute thing.

I personally had Martin in the 5th spot in both Prelims and Finals, but I had been saying all day that any single band that could make Finals here had a real and legitimate shot at advancing to State.

Poor numbers management exists in every system and a non-ranking system can turn out either even more wild or cause a judge to essentially accidentally remove themselves from the panel. I have seen this to an *extreme* extent in detailed DCI scoring over the past few years.

Americas advanced due to the long-existing rule where: - If you are in a competition level that advances to a future level (prelims->finals or area->state) - If you are not already an advancer - If you are ranked top-3 (or top-2 for a contest only advancing 2) by at least 2 music judges and 1 marching judge (3 music judges or just "majority" is not enough) Then you advance in addition to the other advancers.
