I didn't even know that was a thing. And how do we know this without any score sheets?

The finalists are announced in random order, the order which they go in is always top half and bottoms half( they might say it’s random but it’s not)

BOA started using a top half/bottom half split for finals back in 2016.

Band sof America splits are set by score for finals. Top half 1-7 are the top seven scoring bands, but they go in random order.  Same for bottom half

The schedule. It shows which half each finalist performs in. Someone posted it earlier

Mine were off by 2. I had Westwood slated over Westlake and had Cedar Ridge slated before seeing Bell. But it was fun for my first time LOL

I was just referencing the several DFW bands missing today from OP’s post haha

Pearland has been a consistent finalist like every band I mentioned the last several years and are fantastic again this year, can’t imagine how much more difficult this contest could’ve been👀

I had Cedar Ridge in over westlake. Very impressed to see the Austin program in finals!
 

It has been a surprising season for Cedar Ridge but impressive to me nonetheless

it's just that Kennedy had twhs rather low in music ensemble at State, one of their lowest placements. prob not the best panel for them for a GE comeback but we'll see!!!

Tough break being in that Frisco area, lots of great groups there, but still a great showing in their first 5A cycle, we’ll see if they can break through next time!
