now Hebron on the other hand...

I thought Carmel and Avon had nice big sounds, but maybe my expectations were just too high. I thought other bands out played them today and had harder material that showed better musicianship. I'd love to be educated on why these two bands have been on top. I'm pretty critical and thought TW and Hebron were better overall, even Bentonville had moments that put them higher in my opinion.

Carmels was a very symphonic performance...like Keller. However Keller's show moved me more, had more GE, and overall felt like a bigger achievement. Granted, I've seen Keller's show more times, and it's hard to not let familiarity come into play.

I am so proud of every Texas school. the school I’m most proud of is Keller. I had talked to a few of them at full retreat in Prosper, and they had so much passion for their show. They genuinely wanted to advance to finals in Grand Nationals, and I believe they are a lock for finals. Really really proud of you guys at Keller. 💙

My dream list for finals is all 8 Texas bands, Avon, Carmel, Blue Springs, and William Mason.

Do I think it'll happen? No. Fishers, Brownsburg, and Bentonville all put up a good fight for finals.

I'm secretly hoping there's a 4 way tie for 12th so we get all 15 of those bands in finals, I don't want to say goodbye to any of them! That's how good this Grand Nationals has been!

Well everyone, that concludes my semis watching, I've got some stuff I gotta get done before semis-awards, but with that being said, here's my predictions. Doing class awards plus top/bottom half, not gonna even try to do placements for semis but will attempt them for finals, but anyways, here we go: 

 

Class awards: 

A

1st. Marian Catholic (music/GE)

2nd. Beechwood (visual) 

3rd. Bourbon County 

AA

1st. Dartmouth (sweep)

2nd. Kiski Area

3rd. Morton 

AAA

1st. Blue Springs (sweep)

2nd. Homestead 

3rd. Arlington

AAAA 

1st. Hebron (music/GE)

2nd. Avon (visual-tie)

3rd. The Woodlands (visual-tie)

It's pretty much impossible for one untrained spectator to guess the collective opinion of 7 judges according to specific rubrics. There's also things like individual music where no one watching at home or even in the stadium will have the viewpoint the judge does.

The best I ever did was getting all 12 in the correct order and within 1 point of the scores. Once and only once.
