I disagree, quite a few bands have the talent base, design, and directors who can produce a product that beats Vandy. Let’s not forget that they looked unbeatable all the way till they got 5th at BOA SA last year (I totally get that they had a freakishly off run but that’s part of the nature of band competitions). That said, I would not be surprised at all if Vandy won both SASR and UIL state. I do think they also have the talent, show design, and directors to pull that off.

Its sad that at the most elite level, kids can work so hard and be disappointed to only get 3rd or only make finals when for literally hundreds of bands, this would be their crowning achievement of all time. That’s the nature of excellence though, once you reach the top, it’s only disappointment from there.

In that way, I’m glad Vandy’s next trip is to a parade rather than grand nats. I’ll bet the whole band (and parents and directors) are a lot more “loose” for it.

Ok so after most of Area, I do have some new contenders imo for being a state finalist. LD Bell, probably the best they’ve looked in a while. MGJ, they have been a powerhouse this year. And Dripping Springs, taking over Ronald Reagan. These are just some bands to look out for.

Keller has had horrible luck with the random draw this year.  The one time they had a good draw (Area B prelims), they had a weather delay right as they were going on, which I'm sure can mess with their flow.

Vista Ridge will be fine, even in an early draw, but Keller having to go right before them while on the bubble is very unfortunate.

i think vista ridge can medal this year, they look and sound really good. Vandy could also get into the top 2 and maybe even win if things go their way, but I think the top 2-4 is pretty interchangeable. I believe flower mound is clearly the best band in the state so I have them in 1st. Seven lakes is extremely good this year and I think they could do really good in finals this year. Coppell imo isn’t as strong as they have been, but I’m not speaking down on their program and the work they have put in. Prosper beat waxahachie AND keller in boa. That being said, the 2 are obviously judged differently. However, I think prosper could sneak into state finals this year. Waxahachie was 1st out from finals last year and I think they can get back in this year.

After watching their show on the Livestream for Area J, I believe they will take it. Vista Ridge though could also have a chance.

2nd time in the last 8 years... maybe they'll get to go last in finals like they did in 2018 after going first in prelims. Who am I kidding. Just hope they get top half after this. Of course with Keller and Vista Ridge going off right after, it makes the early morning must view.

Bridgeland is stacked in with Hebron, Marcus, Pearland, Cedar Ridge, and North Shore. That is going to be a heck of a block.

Keller sandwiched between the Woodlands and Vista is a rough draw too
